Back on track, does Sullivan own horses? I know he has covered his house in bronzes, Stubbs' and alabaster monstrosities, but does he race em?

In response to does he race them well he does and he has been quite successful. He has trophies and ribbons loads of them, Only last year he picked up three more trophies, 1st in the Hobby Horse derby, then he came a close second in the rocking horse 1000 guineas, and the 3rd was for best cat on a horse, he didn't tell them it was his Russian hat that he had just taken off.

He had a lot of success with David Junior a few years ago and then bought Jack Junior from America but was never much cop. Dont think he has had anything for a fair while

Interesting (and snooty) Guardian article from 2006 - just before Sullivan invested in West Ham.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2006/ ... .gdnsport3

Highlights include:
His horses ran in "purple and sky blue" even when he was at Birmingham. Maybe he always was a West Ham fan.
He says you can't make money as a football club owner. About to prove himself wrong there.
The names of some of his old horses. Hellcatmudwrestler?

He considered investing in Spurs. Imagine how differently they would have gone with him in charge.

How he made his first money on football programmes.

His buying policy for horses: buy them cheap and selling for a profit two years later. A strategy now emerging in human form at West Ham.

/TLDR Sullivan too short to be a jockey.

Sully is many many things, a West Ham "fan" is not one of them.

Just see a few lines from Spurs season ticket pack this season...

"All Season Ticket Holders will receive an enhanced welcome pack for the 2017/2018 season. This will include 2017/2018 scarf, pin, plus an exclusive money-can't-buy keyring containing blades of grass taken from the pitch of our famous home of 118 years and special stadium photographs!"

You mean they are not charging fans £50 for blades of grass...

What's in our pack this season?

I suppose the Daves couldn't outright come out and say its a property deal, increase the value of the club, sell, run off into the sunset, it would have got right up our noses. If they'd bought out Tesco, we could all shop at Sainsbury, but its our football club, they know they've got us by the short and curlies. The 90% renewal rate has played right into their hands, even more reason to take us for granted now.

But they are businessmen, it could have been Birmingham, Cardiff, our bad luck it wasn't, its us. That's capitalism and if not them, probably someone else. But what does nark me is what's the FA up to ?

They are the last bastion protecting fans' rights against owners who will not let them stay in the way of a profit. The FA serves to protect the game and I wonder if they have done their job properly. What's happened to West Ham is worse than a flat name change, which they blocked Hull from doing. There's rules around fit and proper person, were they really properly done & publicly available ? PL rules state clubs' must have priority on fixtures, but we don't at the OS, so how did the Daves get away with that one ?

If the FA got cross about piegate that Sutton Utd goal-keeper, how did they let all the above happen on their watch, what's going on ?

They do, but Premier League rule L2 states;

"Each Club shall use its best endeavours to ensure that each League Match takes place on the date and time fixed for."

L7 also states;

"A Club may apply to the (PL) Board for permission to rearrange any fixture so that it is played on a different date or at a different kick off time"

There is a Guidance Note which says;

"Clubs are reminded of their obligation pursuant to rule L2 to use their best endevours to ensure that all League Matches take place on the date and at the kick-off time fixed for them. Pursuant to this, Clubs are expected to do all they can to address any concerns raised by a statutory authority"

So all perfectly acceptable under PL rules

Thanks HD1, does sound like a contradiction in terms and very disappointed how we've ended up, but do hope that in many years, the stands can be bought in closer to the ground. I guess then if it holds less, the prices will go up and that's the rub.

We are asked to pose thusly, E... I've not done the 'crossed arms' before or since... as you can probably tell...

It's a very nice house and yes, there are plenty of horsey-related mementos in DS' office/mancave.
