tbf Obiang can dither in possession at times, but he can certainly pass a football, short and long

Yeah he's not bad - I wouldn't want my post to give the impression he cannot pass. Fernandes, however, like Noble seems to choose a more intelligent pass to keep building play and he puts pace on everything. I really rate him as a box to box option - I think we have a potential star.

I think Fernandes will be good as well

However, as i have said in other posts I think Obiang could be a great box to box midfielder if given more licence to get forward. He is wasted holding in my opinion

He is athletic and strong, has a half decent shot on him, and as evidenced in the Southampton and Bournemouth away games can clearly pick a defence splitting pass in the attacking third

A real Shame he is out for the season, but hopefully he will come back fitter than ever and raring to go next season

Essentially 3 of our best players out for the month at least... 2 probably until the end of the season

Fernandes deserves a go... he will add some much needed energy to the middle with Lanzini while Noble provides some cover

Snodgrass will need to step up... he's been a bit gash in the last few weeks.

As least no more Kouyate at right back for sure now...

We've lacked balance recently as Bilic has shoehorned players into the team, maybe a lack of options will provide some natural balance (inadvertently).

Plus, even though only 1 has gone in, he's got a decent shot on him too.

This will be a bigger loss than we realise.

Step up Nordveit, your time is now!

Sometimes enforced changes can lead to unexpected successes. I particularly remember the Anton/Elliott Ward pairing, but there have been others.

Admittedly, I'm stretching optimism to its limits here.

Sigh, it's never an easy ride at West Ham is it. Obiang is a loss but not too bad as I think Fernandez can step up. Antonio and Reid though we don't have anyone to replace with so that isn't going to help the under pressure boss.

That's a kick in the nuts, and if Winstons is a bad one that could be him done for the season as well

Balls

If we do stay up (and my gut says we should), that's going to be one hell of an exhale at the final whistle on the last day. This season really can't finish soon enough.

Someone must really step up (Lanzini?) for the last nine games now, to be able to rob Obiang of Player of the year...
Get well soon.

Gutted for both him and us. Along with Lanzini, Antonio has been our most consistent top performers this season.

Hopefully Fernandes will be able to fill the gap in the meantime.

I can see us going back to 3 at the back and flooding the midfield with bodies to cope.
