You'd be surprised, there's a great drinking game to play when watching baseball. On a Sunday afternoon in the sunshine, it's a decent day out.

I'm a Mets fan, so I'll be enjoying abusing the Yankees during those games.

An American acquaintance described baseball to me as "Five minutes of action crammed into three hours".

Sounds similar to cricket.

.
So it's the final showdown with the Mayor, LLDC etc tomorrow. I have no doubt they want to get shot of it and in fairness GSB are the right people to get it on the cheap. However it depends whether they want it as they'd have to shell out to refurb it or rebuild it. I think they'll just hold them to the contract and try & get it for nothing in 2 or 3 years when the Mayor has spnked another £20/30m.

Is there a reason they can't turn the pitch 90 degrees and just rebuilding the Bobby Moore & Trevor Brooking Stands? It would need a a mod to the roof I assume but can't see any other problems.

wouldn't they be in the same predicament if they rotated 90 degrees? that would put those two stands a very long way away from the pitch...

GSB will probably try to do you one better and rotate it and entire 180 degrees

He was suggesting rotating the pitch 90 degrees. Then building 2 new stands on top of the 2 stands which are now very far from the pitch (the two stands along the sides of the pitch not at either end).

Maybe someone should tell them it's not 'our' stadium since saying that it is would imply we are involved and making money, in some way, with the MLB deal.

It would require a whole new roof which was the major cost of the refurb. It's a one piece self supporting structure. Also two new stands or massive rebuilds required it would be better to knock it all down tbh I suspect. Man City ground was designed to be turned and rebuilt from the beginning I just can't see it practical for ours sadly though I am happy to be proved wrong.

As for baseball both it and cricket originate from stoolball which literally used a milking stool as a base originally. Various derivatives developed over time and In cricket this 'stool' became like a hoop then the middle stump added to become the game we know today and baseball went its own way without a wicket at all and extra bases. That form became popular in the States simply because with migrating people with few possessions it could be played anywhere with minimal equipment. The original (or closest to it) version of stoolball is still played at some obscure village somewhere. Perhaps we could offer them the London stadium to populise it. I'm sure the thankful and compliant fans will more than please Sullivan.

Back in the 80’s we had an insurance client in Sussex and summer each year we would go down for and play them at Stoolball. Very strange game, “wicket” was a square on the top of a pole in the ground and the bat could best be described as as a wooden frying pan.

How long is this mystery waiting list anyway? I just stumbled upon it on the official site and it got me thinking, I know previously they were bandying about 50k figures, is anyone on here actually on the waiting list and if so how far down the queue are you? Just out of curiosity more than anything as I've never actually believed how many people could possibly be on it but they appear to still be taking applications for it.

I'd guess at most that there are 10% of the figure they quote actually on it.

More trouble at the delightful Westfield last night, this time resulting in a death (on the BBC website). Will be interesting to see how outraged everyone is about that compared to 4 people walking on to a football pitch with no aggressive intent (a bit like our players most of the time).

West Ham is a convenient screen for all the cr@p that goes on in and around the white elephant park.

I am one of those who looks back on the whole move and wonders why it was all allowed to happen with hardly a murmur.
