London Stadium - Tours

Post by Finishing Hammer »

Apologies if covered elsewhere (had a good search but couldn't find) but are there any available tours to the stadium yet or is it too early? Coming from Australia in a couple of weeks and if by coincidence there were then happy days! Cheers.

Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions

Post by Sweeney Bod »

Sorry, I searched and could not find the discussion thread, and the photo and video thread is getting filled with chat as opposed to visual postings.

For what it's worth Sweeney, I reckon it'd be a good idea to separate the threads to have one for pictures/video and another for general discussion of the stadium in the GD forum.

Agreed.

I will start off

The Delays to the Wrap and some internal items (copied from the picture thread)

I am disappointed that some of the finishing touches will not be in place till the Mackems game, coincidently my birthday weekend. However when you look at our "friends" from North London, I feel a bit better. They have to play in a stadium where there are big chunks knocked out of the Paxton and Shelf Stands.

Liverpool are also opening a behemoth of a stand this season, and this has seats facing the side of the Kop as opposed to the pitch.

Saying all that, I am sure if E20 had sold naming rights, the wrap would not be delayed so much. The positive is that any future naming right sale will see passive fan opposition/ denial. By this I mean most fans will now always refer to the stadium as the Olympic Stadium

In terms of the stadium naming, I'm wondering what name will stick with the fans. People are still calling it the Olympic Stadium, the club are trying to push it as 'London Stadium' and by all accounts it will officially be 'Mahindra Stadium'.

Presumably a nickname for the place will develop as well.

Does make you wonder if even the WEST HAM UNITED lettering will end up going up before the 4th August.

Things we've yet to finish:
- Football pitch needs marking out, goalposts, flags.
- AstroTurf covering the track.
- Lower tiers move into football mode.
- 'Sails' to cover the gaps between tiers.
- West Ham branding to cover the concrete front of upper tiers & areas either side of the big screens.
- 'WEST HAM UNITED' sign to go up
- Wrap installed.
- HD Digital screen.
- Statue by Champions Place.

Other than that, the stadium is on schedule like Karren says. :scarfer:

I went there on Friday. Sat in Block 233 and saw my seat in block 236.

Afraid to say it was a lot further away than I had first thought and it took nearly an hour to get from my seat onto the tube.

I think I will always know it as the Olympic Stadium. It has been known by that name for too long for it to be replaced effectively by a Sponsors name.

Possibly not announced yet because of the Europa League campaign, in which I believe a sponsor's name cannot be used.

On Friday night after the athletics It took me and the Talking Horse 15 mins to get from the Stadium to Strat Intl Station (via Westfield). We did have to blag our way through the stewards as soon as we got out of the Stadium but that wasn’t too difficult.

I found my seat in block 211 row 60 and the view was a lot better than I expected. The club shop is excellent.

Plenty of toilets and food/bar areas.

Overall I sort of felt really proud that this is our new Stadium.

It will be referred to thusly in all KUMB output (news, match reports, articles etc.) Just as the West Stand at the Boleyn was always referred to as the West Stand (not Dr Martens, Alpari, Betway etc.)
