Byram/Masuaku should both start tomorrow and I'd wager that there'll be a lot of people calling for at least one of them to start against Tottenham. It just feels like they'll both be well suited to the formation Slav is looking to play at the moment.

You seen much of them lately?

A mate of mine is a Bolton season ticket holder.
He is concerned they may not score another goal all season. That is how bad they are

Reece Burke is doing quite well, but other than that they are proper pony

Its called the 'Reece Burke Effect'.

There is also a 'Josh Cullen Effect' and 'Reece Oxford Effect'.

Not sure whether I'm alone in this or not, but in a 3-4-3 I think Byram should be playing ahead of Zabaleta. I'm not convinced Zabaleta has the attacking attributes to be an asset to us in that position going forwards, and certainly feel like Byram does without offering a significant downgrade in defensive ability.

It might be a bit of a moot point, because I think once Lanzini is back fit and starting Zabaleta will be dropped to accomodate Antonio in the RM/RWB position. But right now I think I'd rather see our 24 year old future right back/right wing back getting game time in the position than our 34 year old free signing who'll be out the door by the time our younger guy is 26.

In a 3-4-3 neither Byram, nor Zabaleta get in the team for me. Neither are good enough to play right wing.

Antonio and Arnautovic would be my wide men and you'd slot Hernandez and Lanzini in and around Carroll.

There is no way in the world Zabaleta is not in the first X1, regardless of formation. It simply won't happen

There's no way you could play Arnautovic as an LM/LWB, in my opinion.

I take it you have signed Kante and Kante's clone to play in the middle for that to work?

Will we see three at the back against Bolton? If we cannot play four at the back against that lot then we've got real problems!

What's the point in changing the system back to a four? Imagine the scenes if we did and we lost.

Stick to the shape that's been working, replace the players and get everyone used to what we're doing in match situations for the foreseeable.

Wouldn't it be better to stick with 3-4-3 even if we are playing a second string? If that's going to be our Plan A from here on, we need to get everyone on board with playing it. Nothing better for that than a competitive game.

The point is they will stick nine men behind the ball so three at the back is pointless. I'd rather have a spare player in their half than ours.

Yes three at the back has served us well in the last couple of games, but we still need to adapt to what is put in front of us.

i think the other way round, zabaleta is nearly as good as byram offensively, while byram is a lot weaker on the defensive side.

It's good to see so many people support Sam Byram, I really like him. He is showing a lot of promise, he seems to be getting himself into good positions, not afraid to get stuck in. Give it another year and I think he will be a formidable part of our plans moving forward.
