The run of fixtures is possibly distorting things.

We have played all the top 10 (going for nearly three goals a game on average), but have half of the bottom half to play, having been unbeaten in five against them this season, and only conceding two goals.

As poor as this season has been, the only time we have been properly rolled over and outplayed was by Arsenal, maybe Southampton.

If I am reading these tables correctly then should we match last season's results from here on in then we would finish on 46 points.

To put that another way our team who are currently achieving a whole point per game less than last year would have to suddenly match last seasons form (our best league season for a long while) just to finish 6 points above the usual perceived 'safety mark'.

The next two games really are massive ones for the club.

BB - You are correct in your thinking.

Of the 12 remaining home games, last season we won 6, drew 4 and lost 2 and of the 11 away games left we won 2, drew 5 and lost 4 or to put it another way 27 points needed form the last 23 games to get to the magical 40 points.

I can see us matching if not improving on the 11 points we got from the away fixtures when you consider that only 3 of those 11 are against teams currently in the top half (Arsenal, Watford and Southampton) so a lot of "6 pointers".

For me, its the home games that will make the difference. Of the 6 wins last year 4 were against teams currently in the top 6 (Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United) games I normally expect us to lose the majority of times so the only 2 home "bankers" are the next two. We also drew with Man City, another game I normally write off and celebrate anything other than a defeat. The other 3 draws were against Palace, WBA and Everton all teams that we have struggled to beat at home in the past.

One thing for sure, it ain't going to be boring. .

Looks like February and April are the two months we can realistically make up some of what we've lost on last season, with our record last season from the fixtures in those months giving us a record of won 1, drawn 5, lost 4.

Good thread by the way, and good work on it CRFC Hammer. Exactly the stats-based type of thread I like.
