Havard Nordtveit. Embryonic cult hero?

Postby submerged on Thu Jan 05, 2017 8:32 pm

His moniker is distinct. Brought in without much fanfare. Has struggled to adapt, has born a notable clanger, yet now getting some matches under his belt and seemingly improving. A humble grafter in a world of b*llocks, and most likely to score one , with one. And best of all, because of the tooth, or lack of it, when he runs, he whistles!.

There's very little FJ loves more than an unlikely hero.

I'll get on board this train with you. Even if he falls off a cliff performance wise, I'll stay on it as well.

"Nordveit for God" will be the slogan.

And yes I will be spelling his name Nordveit, not Nordtveit, despite what his birth certificate or the back of his shirt says otherwise.

But he's got a tiny little 'o' over the A in Harvard! Different class.

The Norwegian pronounciation is 'whorevard' because of the "å". That is enough for me. Cult figure in the making. :scarfer:

He's already a cult hero in my eyes after the Bruce Lee impersonation against Leicester.

Reckon he could potentially have got a red card in each of the last three games. He hasn't got any, so he's lucky at least. And they say it's better to be lucky than good. Which, again, is lucky for him, because he isn't very good.

We need a new Christian Dailly, could Whorevard be our new Lord and saviour?

He's performing better with game time, getting more confidence since he learnt how to understand Slav's Norwegian too...

It's an odd thing with cult status, so many different aspects can create it. A mercurial talent, a stubborn resilience, a steaming head coupled with loyalty, effort and an optimistic smile. Some players earn it, some have it thrust upon them. What I like about Nordtveit is a sense of, what will sound terribly wanky, but is a kind of stoical calm. He goes about his business in a fashion that reminds me, even in the bling of Babylon, there are 'honest' humble-type players. ( And he whistles when he runs).

From a distance (i.e. most seats in the London *spit* Stadium) he certainly looks as frail & weedy as CD did in his West Ham days.

Let's hope he doesn't let this affliction ruin his career.

Dailly might be pushing it (for now), but a Obrien type status could be on the cards if he puts a shift or two in.

Bonus info: my girlfriend reckons he is the second best looking player we have, after big Andy.
