I query the legitimacy of this a little when it's referenced that he's not played a minute under Moyes. So that injury was just a figment of everyone's imagination then?

I like Fonte. And he's going to make a good permanent pundit when he hangs up his boots too.

That Daily Record piece is rather poorly researched - Mr Castles claiming that Fonte (who's been injured since October) has been "frozen out"?

Its now fair to say Spurs made better use of their Bale money (which they pretty much flushed down the drain) than we did with the Payet money, which has now pretty much made its way back into the owners pockets. Just like the Ayew money. Scum bags.

Must have done 15m in the last year on Snodgrass and fonte. 5m more and we could have had the holding midfielder we desperately need. Just another indication that these twerps haven’t got the faintest idea on how to build a balanced squad

Well at least we got a good year out of him, definitely worth it.

Stopgap signing so that Ogbonna could go for much needed surgery. Given his age I doubt we hoped for any sort of transfer fee and with young Rice looking decent and Burke/Oxford still around at the end of the season I think it's a decent bit of business. Who knows how quickly he'd adapt and get up to speed after a significant lay off?

Sullivan deserves plenty of ire for coating him off earlier in the season, but moving him on now is no real cause for concern IMO.

He barely played and when he did he was inconsistent and often his flaws were painfully showcased. 4m loss in a year, we might as well have just played a youth player.

He was on his Instagram story an hour ago with Lanzini and Mario having professional pictures taken wearing WHU branded gear, photos for the website/catalogues by the looks of things.

Chinese wanting Rice would have been one for the Sun.

Odd that he’s on a West Ham instagram video modelling new stuff and has himself instagram’d training pictures with Mario and Evra with crossed hammers and smiley face in the associated comment

Has it all stemmed from the one Daily Record exclusive or is there another source?

Moyes confirms he’s nearly off. More asset stripping when we have such a big squad :thdn:

One of Fonte or Collins needed to leave. We can't have them both contracted next year. The general consensus on here is that people wanted to extend Collins' contract.

We've got Rice and potentially Oxford permanently needing a squad place from next season. It leaves Obgonna, Reid, Collins, Rice, Oxford, and even Cresswell playing for three centre-back places.

On the face it, £5m (allegedly) for a player of his age, that we would have most probably had to pay to leave in a couple years time is a good deal.

But we are always one injury away from another crisis, and are hardly blessed with defensive options.

Yet another example though of our revolving door transfer strategy..

Let's face it, the bigger mistake was buying Fonte in the first place, not selling him.

Called it as bonkers business at the time.

Makes me wonder what we have spent on agent fees to facilitate both transfers.

If Jose's departure makes some space for the likes of Burke & Oxford , then it can only be good.

IF we dont get a spate of CB injuries , then we would be screwed.

Another weird deal, with a poor outcome. Fernandes and Masuaku are the only two transfers left from windows where we needed to step up. Probably good to recoup some of the funds on this guy, but his time was like Ayew's, some good stuff, some bad, essentially a loan deal

True

However the biggest issue here is more money in without spending.

Don’t care in the slightest about the player as he wouldn’t get ahead of Ogbonna, Collins, Rice and Reid for me.

Upping that net spend figure, their lowest 12 month spend since arriving by the tune of about 50m
