Colours never run wrote:It's great to see the Club have not hesitated on going for top quality targets like Ieanhacho straight away and reported to have offered £22m to City to get him. No guarantee he'll arrive but they are acting quickly and decisively this summer which is all you can ask.

Wonder how we have structured the offer? What portion up front, followed by how many instalments over what length of time, what goals bonus, etc etc ?

Depends on price of course, but Long and Afobe are would both be a massive improvement on what we had upfront for the vast majority of this season.

We aren't just looking for a starter imo, we are also looking for some useful back up that scores a reasonable amount when called upon. And that is in addition to Carroll.

Sakho must be off, surely? Final year of his contract, never fit anyway.

Agreed. A few spurs friends of mine hope they go for long.. if he is good enough for a club that is going to be playing champions league has to be good enough for us!

saying that though if we signed either or both of those above. we still have to sign an actual quality player.. Long and Afobe would be very good squad players

More like a Beatles tribute band.

Shifting him may be a problem .

He strikes me as exactly the sort of individual who will demand a "loyalty" payment to leave .And not a small one either .

I agree .

I'd see Long as the third striker .

No.1 - Top drawer / the elusive 20 goal chap
No.2 - Andy Carroll , the game changer on the hour if needed
No.3 - Does the dog work when needed, runs all afternoon if "those sorts of games" .Long's your man for that .

If we sign a 3rd choice striker I don't think we'd spend anything on them anyway so I think we can rule Afobe out as a possibility.

I'm still all for selling Sakho and Carroll and replacing them both. I'd let a combination of Fletcher, Martinez, Ayew and Antonio be the third choice.

What on earth makes people think that we will rely on carroll as our main striker. If the board are stupid and short sighted enough then they deserve all the abuse they get.

Who is saying that we should rely on him as our main striker?

Sakho and Valencia can go.

Surely they can blag £8m-£10m for the pair?

Even with a 20 goal striker (which we won't get as we can't afford them nor would they join us) I think we would still need 2 back ups if Carroll stays. An injury to the main striker and in reality we're down our 3rd choice striker for however long it might be...

Shifting Carroll's wages is just as important as Sakho IMO. Considering their respective injury record and wages (and Carroll's affinity to staying in Essex) I doubt we'll shift either let alone get much/any cash for either of them.

Carroll simply cannot be counted on to be first choice any more. No point planning your team around a player who you'll only get half a season from. He has to be second, if not third choice now.

As a point of reference - Sakho scored 5 in 1527 minutes in the year we finished 7th.

If the board really believe new signings have that much affect on season ticket renewals then they're as daft as they sometimes appear to be.

Think we'll definitely bring two strikers in, Fletcher and Martinez will go on loan and rightly so as neither of them are ready for the premiere league yet, two new strikers, hopefully Sakho and Carroll are fit to start the season, if not, Ayew and Antonio can both play the support striker very well, for me it's probably Ayews best position!

You can almost hear the quote now "The fans want top quality exciting players, as do we and we tried as hard as we could working night and day, but they have to take some responsibility. If only they had renewed their season tickets as early as we asked them to, we could have increased our transfer budget."
