According to reports, West Ham are interested in adding Wayne Rooney to the list of big name players they've failed to sign.

I do agree with Burnley regarding Fernandes seeming to be more an attack minded player, much better in the final third. He's got the athleticism and physique ideal for a winger taking on players, not so much for breaking up play tidying up the defence. I just don't see that side to his game but maybe it'll come. A Kante type though, he most definitely isn't.
Nor is Obiang though

Regarding your first point, we don't need to being buy players who push us into the top 6. That is not really feasible IMHO. At this stage we need to be buying players who will consolidate us in the top 8 (I am not saying Mvila would do that btw)

However, that is not not to say I want Noble out now, as I don't. What he brings to the team, the club and supporters is intangible

However, two years down the line Obiang supported by a 'Kante Mk 2' would be superb
I agree... someone with energy who can slot into a back 3 when necessary is becoming key (Dier does a fine job for Tottenham too). Oxford had a blinder playing that role against Arsenal last year and could be a long term answer to that spot in the team if bringing someone in from the outside is as illusive as it appears.

Obiang and Noble are very similar and for me should be competing for 1 spot in the team, while Kouyate is looking more and more like at CB as time goes by.

100% agree with both of these points.
I can't decide right now whether Kouyate is our starting CB as it stands. Love him as a CB, is he better than Fonte? Think Fonte is a victim of coming into a ****/poorly organised squad.

Reid is number one, but don't know whether he is an organiser or not..

Totally agree about Kouyate at cb too, does anyone think the plan for next season may be to play 3cbs with Oggy on the left side and buy more of a wing back on the right?

I don't think we plan in systems. We should, we don't.

Although I would happily avoid planning for systems if the approach became about quality not quantity. We don't need loads of players.

Ps so to expand a bit...the plan being we buy someone like Trippier and a mobile goal-scoring centre forward, follow the Chelsea 3 4 3 model, Lanzini takes Hazard role, Antonio takes Pedro role......or perhaps I've been playing too much football manager!

We've got the best Plan B in the country already, we should be looking at a pacy goal scorer to be starting at striker over wasting £18m on a lanky carthorse for the bench.

Amen. Make no mistake. When we played with Sakho up top. We looked better than we did with Carroll. Carroll is one of the best impact subs you could have in world football. Let's use him properly. Bring him on after 60-70 each game. He can defend corners, or try and get us a goal with what he has to offer + he wont be on the pitch long so he won't get injured as much. It's perfect.

In

Hart 12.5m
Zabaleta Free
Charlie Taylor Free
Batshyayi (loan with an option to buy)
Defoe Free
Sigurdson 27.5m
Oxlade Chamberlain or Wilshere 20m

Out
Feghouli 10m
Randolph 3.5m
Nordveit 5m
Tore (end of loan)
Calleri (end of loan)
Arbeloa (free)
Valencia 13.5 m

Net spend 28m- not an unreasonable amount, and we would gave a much better, more balanced squad.

Where' are our Scouts? We seem to be linked to all these flavour of the month players when their stock is highest. King, Delafeu, Pickford, Oxlaide. We cannot compete this way imo, I believe more in the Southampton model, develop your own & have the scouts target younger players with potential or surplus to bigger teams squads. Also look into contract details of attractive players earlier & take advantage before others ie) Oxlaide, Sig, Zabaleta, Iheanacho etc..

This may not be the instant gratification many are looking for, but i feel will benefit us in the long-term. To start I'd definitely start Oxford next to Obiang & would've recalled Burke for game time. These players are our own gems who identify with us as much as we do with them. This is crucial in the current transitional moment we are going through.

Hart 12.5m more like 15m and mega wages. Is he worth it. stick with adrian
Zabaleta Free agree for 2 year max deal
Charlie Taylor Free agree young british player
Batshyayi (loan with an option to buy) just what we need fast and young
Defoe Free not sure we should be buying a 34 year old striker ?? if no one else then yes.
Sigurdson 27.5m just what we need. should be the first signing we make.
Oxlade Chamberlain or Wilshere 20m rather have sigurdsson. we wont sign them as well. OX would be my preference.

Out
Feghouli 10m
Randolph 3.5m
Nordveit 5m would keep for another season as not had a chance in his preferred position of DM.
Tore (end of loan)
Calleri (end of loan)
Arbeloa (free)
Valencia 13.5 m more like 8m.

sigurdsson, batshauyi, zabaleta or other RB are the priorities. Get those 3 in early and we will be buzzing.

adrian
reid kouyate fonte
zabaleta obiang sigurdsson lanzini cresswell
antonio batshauyi

Can we put it in the thread title that loanees can't be recalled?

Also, where are our scouts?

Payet, Lanzini, Antonio, Ogbonna, Obiang, Martinez, Quina, Cresswell, Byram, Feghouli were they all 'flavour of the month'
