Pablo Zabaleta: two-year contract signed

Postby comebackjoecole on Thu Apr 06, 2017 2:48 pm

3 year contract, at the end of which he'll be 35, and according to City fans
his legs are already gone. Just what we need, a full back who can't run.

Old and past it it. Surely we learnt from Arbeloa? But he is free so our owners think it must be a good deal.

And yet a quick look on their forums and they're all gutted he's leaving and think he'll be great for us.

his club would have wanted a fee though - so that ruled him out

Still unsure on him, being good enough to play at 32 for Man City with the talent around him and being good enough at 33 for us, with little success on offer and under more pressure during games is completely different.

Some players can get to 33 and turn into a sack of potatoes (Fonte, Nolan, Arbeloa) and others can push past the mid 30's and still look prime. Hopefully we've signed him based on scouting him and how good he still is and not just because he's from Man City.

Will either be a massive success or look completely lost.

The bare minimum you expect from a transfer is that they're better than the player they'd replace. By that measure he'll be the signing of the decade.

Will be instantly popular as well - half the team will owe him a debt of gratitude that they're no longer going to be playing RB. Won't have to buy a beer all season.

He wont play for a Championship team, so wont happen

Shame though, he's exactly the type of player we need, as a PL club

Good point.

If this is to be believed and he is signing for us then I predict he will be another highly rated player that will look like dog :thdn: as soon as he plays for us.

A leader. Something our defense has been sorely lacking.

Lucas Neill had no pace, but our defense was better for having him organise them. If Zabaleta's legs are going, his brain and leadership skills will still improve our defense 100%.

Now we just need a keeper who instills confidence in those in front of him and for Cresswell to return to last season's form and we might have a half decent defense!
