The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18Hello everyone,
Technically the new season started July 1st as well as marking the beginning of the new scholarship contracts so I thought I'd start up a new thread for all things academy.

Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18First item of interest - Sam Howes is currently training with Watford after his release.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
Thought I'd missed someone out, cheers. Might have a loan this season, if not in the summer window perhaps in January.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18I'm sure I read somewhere the other day that Bilic thinks that a player needs to make it in the Championship first before being considered for the first team. Not sure where. May have been Ex.
If that was true though, then doesn't that mean that the young players don't stand a chance unless they go out on loan? And how does that explain Quinoa? He looked closer than anyone at breaking into the first team at times last season, and he's never been on loan anywhere.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18We can only loan a player out if another club wants them. There are dozens of Championship and League 1 & 2 clubs at every U23 game, but if they don't think what they see is going to improve them or fit into their system then they are stuck in the stiffs, so to speak.
On a side note, I'd totally forgotten about Doniel Henry.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18According to reports in Holland, we have signed Ajax youngster Anouar El Mhassani on a three year deal.
He's a no.10/winger and I believe he was a schoolboy player as of 2016/17 - so it's either a scholarship + one year pro or one year as a schoolboy and a scholarship. Will hope to confirm soon.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
Perhaps Bilic has a point. Championship experience can never harm but it's not always the case ie Oxford and perhaps Quina. For the more senior of the U23s a loan would be very beneficial at their age, but as Chelmo Hammer said they can only go where they're wanted. And yeah, Doneil Henry's contract is up in a year's time, I believe. Feel very sorry for him, terrible luck with injuries. Could carve out a decent Championship career imo.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
finally we sign a dutchman..hope he comes good ![]()
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
With him and Rice edging closer to the first team picture things are looking tasty.

Never posted a link before Rice, Quinna and Trott Rice got great technique for a centre back
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18Hard to judge when it's only shot stopping, but Trott looks like a pretty good keeper.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
two footed as well it seems which is always nice
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
I think we rate Trott very highly. That's why we released Howes who has landed on his feet at Watford.
Re: The West Ham United Youth Thread - 2017/18
Trott is very highly rated yeah - should be third choice providing we don't get another goalkeeper. Howes was very highly rated too and was unlucky to be released, I am sure he will do well at Watford. Domingos Quina attracting the attention of other clubs according to the press - can't say I've heard anything about that so I'm not too sure if that's true.
