Perhaps we baulked at paying agent fees, signing on fees etc. Who knows.steveyrockstar wrote:I find it bizarre/ironic that we (reportedly) tried to sign Arnautovic and Ayew when they first moved to England, both turned us down for another club - and then we end up signing both later on for club-record fees.

every season we get let down by "big signings" however this guy is class, just hope he can do the job without too much primadonna stuff going on

Hopefully the fee won't add pressure but like him as a player and was gutted we didn't get him first time round. Think he has the makings of being a bit of a cult hero, as long as expectations aren't too high. Like said already he is a bit of a nutter.

It hilarious reading! It starts a month ago when rumours he put in a transfer request, the first half is all about how gutted they would be to lose him and what an amazing player he is, and now to he only turned up for 3/10 games!Coops wrote:I just had a nose on Oatcake forum. Stoke fans never fail to keep me amused! Oatcake is a great form of entertainment!
Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
In fairness whenever I've seen him he's either unplayable or anonymous. More of the former than latter though.ironfireman wrote:It hilarious reading! A definite upgrade on Snodgrass or Feghoulli, competition for Ayew and Antonio on the wings.
Good piece of business, tied up well in advance of the new season, 2 more starters and I think we might avoid a relegation battle.

Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
great signing and the fee is what you have to pay I guess.
a player with real skill who can win you the game.
next level for him and time for him to deliver in the best years of his career.
we have some real options up front. After chico we need one more striker. gray for me.
could be a fun ride with arnie and west ham.

Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
He better learn how to track back and cover the overlapping defender...something he has been heavily criticised of not doing when at Stoke.
Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
Agree with the comment about him always looking angry. The 3 signings we have made are all winners, who ooze character and take that personality on the pitch. We don't have enough of that.

Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
Remember an in-form Carroll against manure a couple of seasons back where he was virtually unplayable and as a lone striker roughed up their defence something rotten, imagine recreating that, with Arnautivic and Antonio, Chich and Lanzini as the supply, I can't effing wait, welcome to West Ham Marko

Re: Marko Arnautovic Signs
Read a lot that his scoring record isn't that good in comments on articles about this (although as a left winger I'm not sure we should be considering that).
BUT - he last year provided 11 goals, and the season before 17, in combined goals and assists. In both season Stoke only scored 41 all season - worse than us!
Interested to see what he'll do if we have a more attacking set up next season. Kind of excited by him coming in, having initially been quite doubtful.
