Yes, those names still bring a chill over me when I see them in the same sentence!!

We've had this topic a number of times. It depends on how you define 'worst' - ability, effort or value.

I wouldn't have Dowie in any list - in fact if he was playing today he'd probably cost £20m! That's how bananas the PL has become.

For me Dyer and Ljunberg take some beating. Cost us something like £30m in a total and offered close to zero.

I can see how Hart is getting in - £150k a week, a few million in signing on fee, no better than our reserve and off if anyone else is stoopid enough to pay him that sort of dough ever again. McNightmare was worse but certainly not pound for pound.

I genuinely see less quality in this current squad than in the one that went down 40 years ago.

Wouldn't have any of these anywhere near a worst team!

Well, Bywater conceded six on his debut, and spent the next several seasons being loaned out sometimes not getting an appearance on loan. Might be a bit unfair as he was so young and thrown in at the deep end, but even when he became a regular starter for us in the Championship three keepers were signed to start ahead of him, which suggests he wasn't deemed good enough to be our number one even in the second flight.
I'm not quite old enough to remember McKnight, so I think it's down to Bywater or Carroll (or Randolph) for for my memory and Bywater's unfortunate first few games were probably the worst I've ever seen.

Repka was a joke in his first season or so. Didn't he admit he never even wanted to play for us?

Schemmel endeared himself for his work rate in his debut season, but has a HotY ever had such a terrible following season?

I might suggest Upson as worst captain too.

I wonder in history of the football anyone has ever made it from the club's Worst Ever 11 to Player of the Season within 5 & a half months? :P

BTW - Raggy Soma is by far the worst ever player I've seen in a West Ham shirt. I'm truly mind-blown that he doesn't feature in everyone's XI as the first name on the Team Sheet!
Followed by Wayne Quinn in a very distant 2nd place.

That list has brought me out in a cold sweat. Not sure Paul Brush deserves to be on it though.

How anyone can list one of the few players in our entire history to actually have a winners medal (FA Cup) and win it with us, is beyond me.

I think you might be getting Stephen Bywater mixed up with somebody else.
The guy played 65 games for us, and as far as I can tell never let in six goals on any of those appearance.

Also came on in the Championship play-off final and clearly didnt poop his pants.

Just for fun, bit of a different one.

I can hold my hands up on Zaba. He came good as a wingback. I was petrified of him in a flat back 4.

Wow I’ve (probably intentionally) forgotten some of the dross that was here like Jelavic.

I actually quite liked Di Michele. Has anyone mentioned Borriello? So excited when he signed and he did absolutely nothing.

On that note I quite like Nocerino and thought he could have been okay if we’d have kept him longer.

I really can't remember half the players listed, which either proves i'm senile or we have signed lots of **** players over the years. I remember when Pardew was first in charge in the championship we signed people and sold them on (at a profit) seemingly every few months(obviously it wasn't cos of the windows). Lee Chadwick was signed on a free and sold for £1m I believe. I don't know who gets on the list but I know that Schemmel, Brush and even Bywater don't. Ther's been far, far worse players gracing the claret and blue

To be fair we could actually name 3 or 4 sides of the 'worst West Ham players ever'.
