Re: West Ham United v Arsenal: Match Thread
Be interesting if they can put that effort in again 4 days later. Sure it will be the same again. My only worry would be I think Arsenal are better at breaking down a packed defence than Chelsea. However Arsenal are worse at the back and Lukaku really bullied koscielny last week.I’m actually imagining a very similar game to arsenal/manu.

I hope Moyes has worked Carrol out now.
If we are desperate in the last 10 then stick him on otherwise leave on the bench.
We are much better off without.

We can beat these...they have a tousing due and play like we have against the plastics and we can send the whiners on their way with their tails between their legs. We owe them and I fancy us to win this 2-1.
After this we play the 4 teams immediately above us over the festive campaign...getting something from this could be crucial.

Usefully, this match coincides with WBA visiting Liverpool.
We could draw here and still make it out of the bottom three. Means we don't have to approach the game with that niggle of desperation in our play.
The great thing about what happened today is that several players laid down a marker for inclusion in the next match, on merit, Arnautovic and Masuaku, especially.
Mark and Manu love a derby.
We owe Arsenal a defeat, but if that's the point you're offering, I'd take it...

Re: West Ham United v Arsenal: Match Thread
going to be a tough game as arsenal are flying apart from the manure defeat.
they play today so hopefully a few injuries and a hard game.
a draw would be a good result . keeps the momentum ticking along.
then onto stoke Newcastle Bournemouth west brom plenty of points there to be had.
need to keep the performance and fitness levels up to what they have been last two games.
any news on Antonio ?

Re: West Ham United v Arsenal: Match Thread
Antonio was just knackered yesterday...he put so much effort into that first half
We will need a colossal performance again
I'd like to see the same set up...the only change id consider is dropping Lanzini deeper for Noble, sticking a striker up top and having Antonio in Lanzinis role. That would just give us a more attacking look...

If we are fortunate enough to get interest in January I would move him on in a heart beat. Nothing personal but I just think he is a complicating factor in the squad now. If Ings is fit and healthy I would get him in as a more natural alternative to Hernandez.Eastcoast wrote:I hope Moyes has worked Carrol out now.

As for Arsenal I suspect it will be the same side as Chelsea. However, if tiredness is an issue the likes of Ayew and Fernandes will not let anyone down.

Superstition says prophet should’ve done this title
Part of me says exactly the same team deserve to start again, the other part says Carroll/Chicharito in for Antonio

I think that the interview with Moyes when he talked about finding the best sytem for Hernandez was significant. The fact that he rested Carroll and Hernandez on the bench makes this selection quite realistic. It also gives him a good bench for plan b.ironsjh wrote:Adrian

Some height, muscle and skill up front with two attacking might just make them nervous.
I know that they are a big club with expensive players but they are just 11 players versus our 11 players. Anything can happen on the day.
The reason the Huddersfield and Burnley are doing so well is that they do not care about the opposition. They just play their game.
That is what we must do, play OUR game and not kowtow to their ways.
Hopefully a 1 1 draw or better.

Re: West Ham United v Arsenal: Match Thread
probably wrong thread but a mate wants to put his ticket for this game up for resale and said he couldn't see how to and had spent a while searching the site.
Knowing him to be a techy luddite thought he was taking rubbish but when I log on I can only see option to do ticket forwarding not put up for resale.
someone able to tell me where and how to find the resale option ?
many thanks in advance,

Injuries/fitness allowing it must be the same team and tactics.
Park noble & obiang infront of the back 3.
The most important thing is to try and keep them to 0.
Outlet is Arthur, Lanzini & Arnie, or in behind their back 4 so they are turned around with Antonio's running & strength. The game is then in their half but we keep the cover incase it breaks down.
Lanzini, Arnie and Antonio have got the skill to grab a goal as proved Saturday.
Play the % game and be patient in these upcoming games is the way to go.
If we do pick up some points confidence & the mood will improve, the players will start to believe and we'll all feel a lot better.
What's happening off the pitch needs to be addressed, winning doesn't change that but it will keep us united for the battle ahead this season.

I think if we play like yesterday Arse will do us from the wings...
I’d be happy enough to see any result on Wednesday as long as the performance is there again and wasn’t just a one/two off going forward..... we need to keep this type of performance against the lower league clubs...
A point would be what we could really do with going into the Stoke game... I think it would boost our confidence for playing a ‘smaller ‘ team....

Re: West Ham United v Arsenal: Match Thread
Arsenal were very slow to start today & Soton took advantage & scored early on. If they had got a quick second goal, they might well have gone on to beat them. The Gunners are weak defensively so it would seem smart to get at them early on, much like we did v Chelsea. In fact they are very similar to Chelsea at the moment.
It seemed their game only changed when (our once target?) Giroud came on & then scored. Much as I always fear Arsenal games, if our players have got over yesterdays efforts (& with 1 day extra than Arsenal), this might be, in our current ascending form, unusually for us, quite a winnable fixture.
Bound to lose then!
