Heart says yes. He has done a sterling job in the majority of games he's played.
However, head says no. He's old and getting slower.
Can we not offer him a coaching position as part of a pay as you play deal?
So much depends on how long Collins himself thinks he can go on...

Wears his heart on his sleeve no doubt, a great servant, and very well liked......
However, for all his diving headers (and he does this lots), he is an absolute clod of a baller, always hoofing route one to the opposition back 4, no (or little) football intelligence. Gives away possession more than any other player IMO.
Offer a coaching role, or ambassadorial rol, not a playing deal.

Going against the grain here, but I'd rather keep him and move Fonte on.

I wouldn’t want him starting many, but as back up and to throw on towards the end when battling to hold a lead there’s not many better in our price rangedixie1978 wrote:Wears his heart on his sleeve no doubt, a great servant, and very well liked......

In games where we'll get inundated by crosses, Ginge is you man every time.
Re: [POLL] Should Collins' contract be extended?
If you watched the Watford game you'd offer him a five year deal. If you watched the Brighton game you wouldn't let him on the team bus home. It's difficult because he gives 100% and genuinely wants to play at West Ham, it's just a question of whether he has the legs for another season.

He was certainly a Colossus on Saturday, goa.goa127 wrote:If you watched the Watford game you'd offer him a five year deal. If you watched the Brighton game you wouldn't let him on the team bus home. It's horses for courses. Against team who sling high balls into the box, he's the best defender we've got. Against those who play neat diagonals from midfield with quick strikers, he's a ****ing liability.goa127 wrote:If you watched the Watford game you'd offer him a five year deal. Having said that, so are the rest of our defenders.

kayahammer there won't be many crosses at Anfield. Salah and co will waltz straight through the middle of us so lets hope Reid is fit for this one.

Re: [POLL] Should Collins' contract be extended?
I could almost, almost feel sorry for Sullivan in this situation.
Imagine his meeting with his internet forum mole
Sullivan: So what are the fans saying?
Mole: They're angry! They're very angry boss! They're sick of our squad recruitment. They say we keep employing old players on short term deals because it's the cheap option. They say it's short sighted, miserly and lacks the ambition they were promised when we moved to Stratford. They want us to spend money and invest in younger, better quality players!
Sullivan: Oh dear! Anything else?
Mole: Yes! They overwhelmingly want us to give a new contract to our 35 year old fourth choice centre back!

been here for years, seems to like the club.
still puts in some man of the match performances.
why wouldn't you give him an extension? ideally not as a starter, but he can still perform at high level for us.

Re: [POLL] Should Collins' contract be extended?
If we're sticking with three centre backs, we definitely need five senior centre halves in the squad.
Recruiting a younger peak age centre back shouldn't be dependent on Ginge going.
Hart and Carroll probably earn more and we have three left backs here now.

Why would he need a mole to read the forum? He just needs to click on KUMB.James P wrote:I could almost, almost feel sorry for Sullivan in this situation.

It's easy to imagine the effect players like Ginge have around the place, Sullivan can't put a price on that no matter how much he'd like to.
