Liverpool F.C. - your memories

Postby One Peter Butler on Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:13 pm

I thought carefully about starting this thread because I don’t have many great memories and I am getting on a bit.

I suppose most will plump for the Paul Ince match?

My poignant memory is a 0-0 at home around 1991 when I came out to my car in Iniskiling Road and someone had stolen the stereo from my car!

Never realised until recently that aside from our abysmal record at Anfield, that apparently spurs went 60-70 years without a win there until a Garth Crooks winner in the 80s.

The 4 games we played them during Slaven's fist season. 4 games all unbeaten. The 3-0 win at Anfield, Then completing the double over them, plus the 0-0 FA Cup draw at Anfield followed up by the last minute extra time winner via Ogbonna's header.

The 1-0 stoppage time win (Noble's penalty) a couple of years after the FA Cup heart Break.

Don Hutchison's Brace back in the mid 90's, me and my mate got to meet a couple of the players after the game.

Oct 82. 3-1 to us, Sammy Lee crying in front us and all our mob in the South Bank at the end of the game, bless his little cotton socks, he was so upset bawahaaaaa.

One of the most satisfying days in my life seeing that little so-and-so whining to the ref and for once, getting sod all.

Unfortunately the first thing I think of is 2006

However, like mentioned earlier in the thread, Slavens first season. 0-3 at Anfield and the way Noble captained the team that day must have made any West Ham supporter proud. I won't forget that day

My over riding memory of playing the Mickeys is at Home (god I miss the Boleyn) 1978 which I think relegated us. My dad took me, I was 10, and I remember watching fans climbing over walls to get in (I'm sure they were scousers but my memory isn't great!) and by the time we got to the turnstiles it was a full house. It is the only time I have been unable to get in to a match I have turned up for.

Sharing a table CF day 2006 in a Cardiff greasy spoon for breakfast with a few incomprehensible Scousers who kept topping up our cups of tea from a bottle of brandy they had under the table.....

I remember hating them as long as I can remember, with an unparalelled intensity. Them and the Welsh.

2006 was a bad one. One of my best memories was Zavon Hines ripping Carragher apart and for 15 minutes thinking he and Freddie Sears were going to be world beaters.

I think we lost but it was still a great day!

DasNutLock, I agree totally, they are my most hated team as well, and I hate everyone! Every football programme is crawling alive with Scouse pundits, every one of them bias and myopic, Gerrards "don't let it slip" speech and Demba Ba's ensuing goal is my favorite non West Ham football memory.

Paul Ince, Scott Parker's performance against them during Avram's season, and that season under Bilic

Otherwise they are a team that I associate with horrible cup moments against us

06/07 season I went to Anfield. 3rd game of the season & it was an early kick off. I think we'd picked up 4 points in our opening 2 games.

We went 1-0 up early on and we're top of the 'live' table. All the fans we're singing "We're top of the league"

We lost 2-1, Agger & Crouch scored and we nearly got relegated!

12 May 2006, FA Cup Final Eve.

The week before I was at Upton Park for the infamous Lasagnegate gate game against Spurs. Was a Brilliant day and brilliant pre-cup Final atmosphere. I couldn't wait to the Cup Final... my WH supporting cousin was just home from a year in Australia and we were due to go to a Liverpool supporters house for an old fashioned FA Cup Final BBQ. Had it all planned... Claret and Blue was taking over the house....

6 days later, and the day before the Cup Final, I said good bye to my dad very suddenly.

To this day I haven't watched our last Cup Final appearance but can remember to the inch on the road I was driving on, listening to the radio, when Steve G hit the equaliser.

Liverpool v West Ham has always been, and will always be, a special day for me.RIP Dad!!

Was right in front of that Ince volley and header.

Got in from the match as a 14 year old boy buzzing like mad and watched the highlights I'd taped twice before going to bed.

Doesn't mention him only having to square it a few yards to an unmarked Mickey Hughes for a last minute winner.........messed it up and then mimed to Hughes he didn't see him.

I was 7 or 8, walked to UP from my grandparents flat on Lonsdale road with my old man and grandad.

My grandad always insisted that I take an apple to eat at half time. Would have been 93-94 or 94-95 season, I can't remember exactly, I can't even remember the score. I just remember seeing loads of Liverpool fans crammed into the away section.

Relegating us at Upton park. Keegan scored I think.

Watching Jamie Rednapp deliberately hit a free kick over the roof of the north bank and laughing with Barnes as they jogged back into position (we won and were safe). An easy win for Harry and us. Definitely suspect.

Tony Gale getting two long range free kicks in a 4:1 win under the lights.

And 2006....my favourite non whu.player....I love him and he broke my heart...stevieeeeeee. Pardon?
