Europa League and 7th place

Postby bubbles1966 on Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:58 pm

The League Cup place for Europe is now sure to go to the 6th place team unless Arsenal completely collapse in the league.

That means that if the FA Cup is won by Spurs, Chelsea, Man C or Man U - Europa league will go to 7th.

Who's going to get it? Who wants to play Domzale, Astra Georgie, The Lusitania and Bikakirracarra?

Burnley 36
Leicester 35
Everton 34
Bournemouth 31
Watford 30
West Ham 30

Eleven games to go.

Will be Everton or Leicester, both have very winnable games until the end of the season, they only play the top 6 twice in the next 11 fixtures.

poisoned chalice for any of those , to have to go through the group stages of the EL , then wait for a team that has failed in the champions league to knock you out is just a waste of time .

Everton I think. Allardyce is renowned for getting teams into Europe.

I'd love another crack at Europe, and potentially more opportunities to use and test out our squad, but we'd have to take it seriously. Losing to Astra, twice, was not only pathetic and embarrassing but also a sign of the lack of ambition at the club.

Will be Leicester quite comfortably imo. What on earth would we do if it was us, we’d have nowhere to play lol.

There is more chance of Karen Brady seeing the light and joining the March decked out in a full on West Ham kit than there is of us getting 7th.

We will do well to get close to 10th.

Even if we could get close, they club don't want it we've failed twice recently ..

If the last game of the season between us and Everton, meant a draw or win would see us 7th, then we'd have 0 shots on goal and manage to lose

I'd be happy with it. It's got to be better than "comfortably" finishing anywhere between 10th and 15th, with nothing to look forward to next season, but surviving for another campaign surely.

I do, summer evening, cheap tickets, a opportunity to sit in a different part of the ground.

I'd love it but GSB would rather we didn't qualify. It's a cup after all.

6 points off 7th so there's no reason we can't target it, we also play 3 of the teams in between us and 7th before the end of the season which could help us.

Didn't they do "Yes sir, I can Boogie" back in the 70s? Surely, even our pre-season, decimated, incomplete squad could beat them.

On a serious note, it is, of course, World Cup year, so, we will (possibly) have a number of players returning late and mentally fatigued, who would suffer more over a long hard season. Perhaps not such a good year to be in the Europa.

If anyone did fancy us to get 7th, then Bet Victor have us at 50/1 for the title without the top 6.

Leicester are the even money favourites.

Crazy that we're only six points off a European spot with the season we've had, the whole league 7th downwards is incredibly tight.

Looking at their remaining fixtures Leicester should take 7th comfortably; we probably blew our last chance to put ourselves in the running after only taking two points from Bournemouth, Palace and Brighton.

Astonishing to think we are just six points off a European place yet only four from relegation too. Crazy league this

With Lanzini coming back, Antonio, Arnautovic and Hernandez all finding form, plus a few clean sheets cropping up... Do we dare to dream, or just be happy to survive?
