TV rightsSky and BT in new £4.46bn Premier League deal
http://news.sky.com/story/sky-and-bt-in ... l-11249236" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Isn't this a drop from the £5.1bn paid last time? Maybe we have reached the peak for football inflation. Last edited by Alan Pardew's Dad on Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: TV rightsThey are still adding to the story on the Sky website. Still two packages up for grabs, so more money still to come.
"However under the latest expanded deal, which in total offers 200 games for broadcast, there are still two packages of 20 fixtures a season each on the table."
Re: TV rightsLook forward to the Saturday night winter walks to that **** hole to watch us get mauled by Man City or Liverpool

Re: TV rightsThe other packages are rubbish - not sure what they were thinking offering every game up.
They're now relying on foreign rights to make up the difference.

Re: TV rights2 (low demand) packages to sell, but down from the £5.1bn previous package. Even if the total does go up will barely keep up with inflation.
Hopefully getting close to saturation and a tipping point, but hardly a disaster. Need more people to give up renewing and less foreign demand.
Re: TV rights
could be the end of my season tickets too
Re: TV rightsGenuinely think the law regarding broadcasting the 3pm Saturday matches needs to be looked at. More and more matches are being moved for TV away from the traditional slot.... just crazy
Re: TV rightsAre the two periods comparable?
Saw one report quoting 2015-19 for the £5.14bn and the new one as 2019-22 for £4.464bn Not sure if the period for the first one is correct?
Re: TV rights
It works out as a 16% fall per game according to some places.

Re: TV rightsThe foreign rights will make up the shortfall
Re: TV rights
The more evening kick offs the less I’ll bring the kids who are tucked up in bed at 8pm. Less kids and a next generation will go
Re: TV rightsWho do you think will pick up the 2 all games options? Netflix, Amazon, Youtube or the like?
They are the only companies that are really going to be able to handle 10 concurrent streams aren't they?
Re: TV rightsDoes it matter? It will just mean more costs for the consumer that wants to watch football on the tele.
Re: TV rightsSurely Sky can pick up the full programme remaining packages and launch it as a ‘Super Week’ and show the games across all their channels and make use of red button if necessary? Come to think of it, BT could too once you add in ESPN.
I would have thought them spending the extra money is more likely than one of the streaming companies taking the risk on football - not really their forte is it and they make enough with tv and films. Would they add many more subscribers with a couple of football weekends in a year? I’d bet not.
Re: TV rights
Not sure there's any link between Law and Tradition.
Re: TV rightsId like to think that this is the start of the decline in the ever spiraling wall of cash that gets pumped into premier league football. The game doesn't need it, it just encourages greed; the wrong culture and people.
- agents - millionaire players - youth players in Range Rovers - cheating - tax fiddling - corporate hospitality - ticket prices - empty seats - no atmosphere - billionaire owners - legalised ticket agents you could go on, but its not progress Fast moving to Rugby Union, having grown up on terraces and seeing players get the bus home or our Captain leaving the ground in a Ford Cortina. Look like from some of the comments people are worried about the income slowing down! Bring it on. BtB
