Dagenham & Redbridge v West Ham Utd: match thread

Postby Rio on Wed Feb 21, 2018 5:09 pm

I live a 5 minute walk from there and have got family connections to the original incarnation of Dagenham..

The club are in dire straits financially. We're sending a side there to play a money raising fixture

Born in Dagenham, girlfriend also lives a 5 minute walk away so will definitely get over to this. Been following the situation over there and it's sad to see, lots of players being sold off. Will always be my 2nd team and probably where I'd go if West Ham ever collapsed.

Hope you have a plan C. I don't think there's much future.

Have already purchased my tickets for this. Shame the Daggers are in such financial distress.

Sullivan should make them an affiliate, send them some of our youth squad, let them use our training ground and facilities etc.

I don't see how that would make him any money?

It'll earn him cheap brownie points in the media though (which I suspect is what he's already after with this friendly).

What a f*cker that is!

I went over there this season V Wrexham (mates a season ticket holder) loved it, old style, grass roots football, plus a lovely club house. Hopefully all gets sorted

Such a real shame. For a club that size to get to league 1 was a remarkable achievement. Have had many players who have gone on to have decent football league careers.

Anything that helps them rise above that horrible club @ Brisbane Road gets my approval!

I always used to think Rush Green (where I was born) was Romford, but my Passport says it's Dagenham, so Good Luck D&R! ;-)

Great idea. We already play our Reserve team fixtures there right? So it makes sense.

Had such a great day out at Wembley with their (and many of our) fans back in 2010. So sad to see them in such dire circumstances. Hope they can pull through this.

whatever the motives are for our fundraising game with them, I'm glad we're doing it

Moving to Rainham in March so I'll head down for this one. Always had a soft spot for the Daggers.

Hopefully for them, Gold & Sullivan don't take them over to "save" them.

Gayle the most obvious one, went from Daggers to the Premier League fairly quickly.

Vincelot, Green, Benson, Doe, Arber we're all good players as well, I think Ogogo played against us for Shrewsbury recently as well.

and they gave Steve Potts a home in 2003 :crest:

Better than ours.
Fans close to pitch.
Nice covered terrace on one side.
Modern seated stand behind one goal (for away fans).
Small open terrace other end.
Several small seated stands on other side.

Left the club due to massive disagreements with the club's fans. Felt that it wasn't good for his other business interests. Withdrew all funding. Left the club to it. Sounds like a right Sully to me.

Edit: also found out today that John Still is putting his own money in at the moment to make ends meet. Good on him

Just booked a couple for this, hope they get a decent crowd. We might need them to return the favour one day. No problem with D and R, good community club.
