Couple notes from Ex's podcast:

-Submitted a 20m bid for Mawson, who Ex says is desperate to come (or at least to get out of Wales). If that gets accepted or if we come to an agreement, it'll be a choice of two between Diop, Mawson, and Santos.

-Carvalho is now a target again, now that his contract is officially cancelled. Club is being tentative due to the worry SCP will sue whoever poaches their players, but there is genuine interest.

-Adrian has been reaching out to clubs in Spain. In the event he goes, we'll be signing 2 keepers (Fabianski being one).

-Pastore's wages are still a huge hurdle, he's not sure we'll ever come close on that one.

-Pellegrini wants to see a lot more of Browne, Samuelsen, Holland, Sead Haks, and Oxford before deciding any of their futures. Cullen and Burke were left off this list and not by accident. Could be they're both on their way out.

-Fabianski to be announced as soon as tomorrow, hopefully. Basically echoed what Jinxed said on that one.

If we bring in Fredericks, Diop, Mawson and J.Lukaku, that will be a pretty impressive rebuild of a back 4. All 25 or under and all have pace and power. It should end our weakness on set pieces and both Lukaku and Fredericks can keep pace with pretty much any forward. It would also sort the defence for the next 5 years. I don’t rate Fredericks as highly as some, but it’s no secret I’ve been banging on for Mawson for three transfer windows. I also rate Lukaku much higher than our current left backs.
I have only seen Diop play a few times, but he looked solid and calm on the ball, but his you tube highlights make him out to be the second coming of Domingos da Guia, for those of you who don’t know da Guia, think Maldini meets Chris Samba (at his best).

Lining up something like

Fabianski
Fredericks, Diop, Mawson, Lukaku
Rice, Seri
Anderson. Lanzini/ Mario/ Pastore
Arnie. Chicharito

Subs: Gk to be named later, Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Creswell, Kouyate, Noble, Caroll.

Would be amazing. No real weakness in that team.

Sadly that would cost something like
22m each for Mawson and Diop, 10m for Lukaku, 30m each for Seri and Anderson and 18 to 20m for one of Pastore or Joao Mario. Let’s call it 135m Assuming Adrian for Fabianski is wash.
We could maybe recover 15m for Arthur, 10m for Snodgrass, 8m for Hugill, 20m if we are lucky for Antonio, and 10to 15m for assorted squad players like Bryram , Burke and one of Fernandes or Obiang , 7m for Reid if we are lucky. That’s maybe 70m best case and we still need another goalkeeper, and we are a little light up front and in defensive midfield... but it would be a massive improvement, and we could legitimately have a chance in pretty much every match.

Peaches

good luck to your ambitions but that's a potential 7 new starters....

that's not going to happen...I know you added the bit about not being able to afford that lot...you don't even mention the wages...and my other guess would be,..there ain't no home grown players in there....

we have to name 13 players in our 25...Rice wouldn't count he's too young...

but if we are posting our lists of wants....

Jennifer Anniston for me please..with her picking up the tab everywhere we go...

Goodness no. I can't even listen to the podcast because his cadence is so off-putting. I'm just relaying what a mate who listened to it said was the cliff's notes version of it.

While it might not be 7, I understand Pellers was after 6 players, which ties up with Jinxed's info yesterday. On top of that we may still bring in loans (cant wait for us to stop doing loans).

I would suggest that the new signings will all be starters, with those that stay from last season making up the squad.

Team needs re-built, I think Peaches is on the right track and that more than half of the team on the opening day will be new faces.

Have I read that correctly. You would bench Diop for Oggy ?

I noticed that...from what I have seen Diop is first choice from Santos, Ogbonna, Reid and Rice. You do wonder though if only one of Santos or Diop will be taken, unless one goes into a DM role, which with their pace they could both probably do.

Persistently putting rice in our midfield. He has most probably played less than 10 games there. If obaing can rediscover his Upton Park form is is well capable of playing DM.

Puff, how often have you actually seen either of them play?

Ogbonna was the one player last season that on multiple occasions I’d watch and wish we’d just give a load more responsibility to, or would just take it.

At a club with less romance, a more solid back 4 and less need for identity, the bloke would be captain material. I’m not knocking Noble or his importance, but a part of our problem over the last 2 years has been the need to have him hold everything together in a role crying out for a commanding, international quality defender to do.

On far more occasions than the press important faces of Arnie and Nobes last season, it was the likes of Ogbonna and Zab that stopped 1-1 and 0-2 results from being absolute relegation threatening capitulations.

Diop is a kid who won’t just need time to settle in a new country (the lad is a South of France native, so it will be a big jump), but will need patience to adapt to the pace & demands of the premiership.

Not calling you out on your own on this mate, because I love you to bits, but there’s far too many stattos on here who either just pick their selections from yahoo sport updates, and still haven’t learnt after the likes of Zaza and Fenghouli...

I’ve seen enough of both players in the flesh to say Ogbonna would be starting for us. No way some on here are the jet setting talent scouts they appear to be!

Again, Obiang is another player that’s more than capable of playing that role to our level when fit and happy.

Where are people seeing evidence that Rice needs his development and form for us upending and being moved to DM????

Obiang/Noble or even Kouyate alongside a specialist defensive, midfield destroyer, would instantly improve us, not only in midfield, but also at the back.

Anderson will be done by tomorrow
another keeper has been targeted, not from UK - Adrian will be off it seems
still hear we will are very active in Portugal
Seri will be our Kante if we can agree a fee.
we want 2 new centre halves, Diop and Marlon favourites as Mawson is valued by Swansea at over 25m  , we don't
There are a couple of other potential not on jinxed list as I mentioned the other day. The club has 2 options for every position they want to cover, not all those listed will be coming.
El Pell is extremely strong willed on who he wants.

I think you’d be surprised at how many of us are numb to the wider world of football, apart from, or possibly because of, attending WHU matches every week mate.

This place and whuonline are the only places I get any football updates on, I’d be absolutely roasted by my family if I started sitting there listening to squeaky voiced Herbert’s who know Sullys kids on podcasts going on about some random players that we might or might not be interested in.

I’m quite glad that is the case. Glueing your head to the floor would be more entertaining

If Obiang repeats his goal against Spurs every season, he can stay. If he had kept his form over the last year he'd be at the World Cup.
