1 million more than WBA since June 2014. That is not ambitious enough when you consider the promises the owners have made.

Arnie is as good as gone. Will be tied up pretty quickly. he's 30 years old so 60m is a good price and this will be reinvested. Pellegrini has his hands on the reigns on all transfers.
Arnie will end up a small fish in a big pond at Man U but he wants to go and who can blame him.

Why, it's almost as if they're repeatedly lying in a vain attempt to conceal their fairly obvious profiteering.Tackler wrote:1 million more than WBA since June 2014. That is not ambitious enough when you consider the promises the owners have made.
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2018- 58 days remaining
It is not a coincidence we were in a relegation battle last season.
Just look at WBA.
I am cautiously optimistic the owners will "step up their game" this summer after learning from last season troubles.
Let's hope he is right about it being reinvested!

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2018- 58 days remaining
This 'net spend' nonsense still isn't really registering with people, is it?
It doesn't exist.
Man City are releasing Toure. Let's say he's £200k per week.
That's about £10.5m per season off the book.
They haven't received a fee.
Now it's a bit more complicated than this, but essentially they can now get a like for like replacement financially for a £20m fee and about £100k per week on a 4 year contract.
There is no '£20m net spend'

Marko Arnautovic just told us what any player who has a contract with a football club would have told us .EllisWHU22 wrote:
look at our current options though? Arnie, Carroll, Hernandez, Antonio, Hugil, Martinez.
Rondon has been banded about.
I thought Arnie squashed those rumours recently saying he's happy here and there has been no approach?
No matter who we sign this summer , Marko will still be our best player . He shouldn't be sacrificed for any of them . We could raise £60m without having to sell our best player .

True... but if you sacrifice multiple players to raise that value instead of one then the squad becomes thinner, so you end up having to buy more players meaning that the money you've raised is spread more thinly.

SHOCK,
Some breaking West Ham news
SIMON JONES: West Ham have offered £25million plus £5m in add-ons for Lazio winger Felipe Anderson.
The Brazilian is open to a move to London and is ready to link up with Manuel Pellegrini but West Ham are still short of Lazio's valuation, which is believed to be around £35m.
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2018- 58 days remaining
RARS has hit the nail on the head about the "Net Spend" concept. It rarely seems to include loan fees, signing on fees etc, or indeed the release of players on massive wages that can amount to £10 Million+ over the course of a season. There is also the unknown recoup of wages from youth players who are released, and the same with loan players.
I also dispute the net spend issue as it shouldnt denote quality has been purchased, or indeed the lack of spending. The problem is over the last few years our ostensibly "free transfers" have not been particularly successful. Then again, Zabaleta was a rock last term, and a mainstay of the team, while Jordan Hugill remains a totally unknown quantity, who has apparently played 22 PL Minutes since signing for the Club, at a cost of up to £8 Million. Like I said last night, Sporting Lisbon are currently in dispute with a number of players who are terminating their contracts unilaterally. If Rui Patricio and William Carvalho were to rock up here tomorrow on a free those would be the deals of the century, even without the expense of a single penny for a transfer fee. Ryan Fredricks was in demand by Fulham, but he clearly viewed us as a Club where he could realise his ambitions. He was not a traditionally released player looking to acquire a deal somewhere. He could have stayed at Fulham, but chose us. That deal cost us nothing in the way of a transfer fee. If you are sensible with your transfer policy, you could do very well with free transfers and bosmans. If you release equity in a player and spend it wisely, you can also do well.
Net spend is a very superficial concept.

This is the thing that gets me people get really hung up on the "fee" not the overall cost. I still can't understand how or why we agreed to pay Hernandez £140k pw/£7.2m pa, especially as the board loves to spout off about FFPrare as rockinghorse shat wrote:This 'net spend' nonsense still isn't really registering with people, is it?

And yet on page 323, posted at 07:59, Pezza says he's practically done. It seems to me that the £25m + offer stuff is days old. Who the f*** is Simon Jones anyway?Hammer.CA wrote:SHOCK,

The team last season was Marko, to the extent that the ten others sought to give him the ball at every opportunity. Without him we would have been dead and buried come March and would need to spend seriously more than £60m to replace his impact overall.Burnley Hammer wrote:True... but if you sacrifice multiple players to raise that value instead of one then the squad becomes thinner, so you end up having to buy more players meaning that the money you've raised is spread more thinly.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2018- 58 days remaining
I get the whole net spend thing and I also get that you don't have to spend money to get what you need/quality but I want us to spend big this year because we should be able to and to see some intent from the owners.
if we managed to get the Portugal keeper and big willy on a free somehow as well as balotelli then happy days but it should still leave money (pending their sign on fees and wages of course) to say, ok well lets spend the money we have saved on improving other areas which we may not have.
or even spend a shed load on the stadium/training facilities, youth team etc.
