When I was a youngster back in the 70s he really was 'the' player.

3 years running the CM for AC Milan the best club side in the best league in the World at the time. Something the likes of the Gerrards/ Beckhams of recent times could not have done.

We really should at least spell his name right in this thread ?

RIP Butch

RIP Ray, very sad news indeed :(

PS don't mean to be pedantic with that Mirror article but heart attacks and cardiac arrests are different things. The latter, which Ray suffered, has a very low survival rate.

Very sad news

A true gentleman, and a huge loss at such a young age,

A proper footballer and football man, who was respected and liked by clubs fans whom he played for and against, and represented our country in the same way, and i think all of us watching that referee against Morocco in the 86 world cup wanted to throw something at him, and the fact Ray threw the ball at him and got sent off , elevated him in everyones eyes as a proper normal lad

RIP Ray

Thought exactly the same. 61 is no age at all and it simply didn't feel as though Ray's number was being called. Terrible shame.

RIP

I will think of him in his Chelsea days........that's how I remember him.

Handsome man, gifted passer, elegant..... bit of a pin up back in the day.

A really, really good player.

Forgive the kit this once.

Horrible news. Only ever heard good words said of him, in spite of his well documented problems.
