At their worst, they are the same (complete tear and rupture).

You can get a partial or slight tear though, which would be a hell of a lot better than a complete tear or rupture.

Shopping! What the **** were you shopping for that can cause that??

Trying to carry his missus shopping presumably? If she's anything like my missus, it would take a monumental effort to lug her **** about.

That's why I stated, down the years, not one off incidents which for sure both they and Man United would come out on top.

There was an interesting program on sky sports a few weeks back called ‘la Liga, the dark arts of football’

It focused on cruciate injuries. Well worth a look if you can find it and want to see what players go through when picking up this injury.

According to West Ham Bulletin (twitter) who knows Adrian, Lanzini has only damaged his cruciate ligaments, there has been no damage to other ligaments or his meniscus which is obviously a lot better than initially feared. Surgery tomorrow apparently.

massive boost if true. goes from being some compound career ender to something that is on the bad end of the routine injury scale.

if they're already operating that's a really good sign. it's the ones that drag on from consultation to consultation that are the worst.

Update from Sam Inkersole

Argentina have said Manuel Lanzini’s surgery on his torn ACL last night was “successful.” Expecting new West Ham head of medical Richard Collinge to visit Lanzini in Barcelona later today.

As positive as they have made it sound, it really is not great reading...

Key quotes...

“Manu had a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament, which occurred while he was training at Argentina’s pre-World Cup camp in Barcelona,”

“There are lots of milestones which we need to reach along the way to getting Manu back on the pitch, but rest assured we will be pulling out all the stops to get him out there as soon as possible.”

.
We have fewer players at the World Cup than Stoke, Villa, West Brom etc etc.

Embarrassing but at least Pelle will have extra time with the squad for training.

Argentina could have done with him today. Really feel for the fella he might never have as good a chance to start for Argentina in a World Cup.

As for West Ham I don’t how we are going to replace him, the only player who’s remotely similar to him was Mario. We are in desperate need of a quality playmaker, probably two and they don’t come cheap.

In fairness, he hasn't exactly been on fire for us lately has he? I feel bad for him, but in truth he is inconsistant and injury prone. Great on his day, but those days are few and far between.

Feel sorry for the lad having done my knee ligaments three times in total in both knees.

Hasn't he been called up 4 times by Argentina over the last year or so, but picked up knee injuries on 3 of those occasions?

I think it has been that which has affected last season with us more than anything.
