West Ham all time record goalscorer...is Vic Watson. With over 300 goals. This will never be beaten will it? I can't see anybody getting near Geoff Hurst in 2nd spot either (252 goals i think). Maybe even old Tony Cottee down in 5th (160 odd) might be a stretch too far.
I suppose the main issue is that players don't play for clubs for that amount of time generally anymore. Unless it's Madrid, Barca, Man Utd etc. If old Vic was banging them in for us now all the top top clubs would be sniffing about and we'd inevitably lose him. Will we ever see a player in C&B get anywhere near those numbers? I'm guessing we wont.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerPossibly it might happen in the next hundred years
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerAnd to think poor old Vic still couldn't get in the England team. (Well, most of the time.)
Some guy called Dixie Dean had a bit to do with that.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerCan't see it being beaten. You'd need someone to score 30 goals a season consistently for 10 years - anyone who did that for 1-2 years for us would most likely be snapped up by someone bigger.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorermore worried about someone beating Carlton's all-time Prem goalscoring record for us!
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerOur best chance is someone who supports the club and come through the youth system with little incentive to leave (assuming they are happy on the best wage we can offer). Basically a striker version of noble who can score that many per season on average.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorer300 appearances is a rarity.
Incredible scoring record, Vic Watson. Ought to have statues of players like him.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerWe would need to sign someone like Ronaldo or Messi and keep them at the club for 10 or more years to have any chance of breaking that record. It will never happen!
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerImpossible. Will never be bettered.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerFootball started in 1992. Our record goalscorer doesn't even have 100.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorer
That rings bells, I thought... http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=124502 Vic's stats, from the above article... I highly doubt anyone in claret and blue will ever match his 29/30 season. Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerDamn. When you break it down in seasons you realise just how good he was.

Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerIf we had kept Carlton for another couple of seasons I think he might have done it.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerAs I always say about everything 'Never say never'. Who knows what's going to happen in the future ?
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerIf we're ever sold to the sort of people who can truly put us into that top tier of football clubs then, maybe. Maybe. As mentioned above, it's only that level of club who retain players of the requisite ability for the requisite amount of time. My gut feeling is that that won't happen in my lifetime but, then again, these things can happen bloody fast can't they? I bet the third tier of English football doesn't feel all that far away to more than a few Citeh fans.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerI had such high hopes for Jonathan Calleri too

Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerRealistically, we'd have to acquire the player at a very young age, probably not much older than 21-22. They'd have to be very close to world class for the majority of their career with us. And we'd have to keep hold of them in the face of most teams bigger than us, in Europe, being interested.
I don't think it'd happen even if we got a Man City level of investment.
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorer
Dixie Dean got 350 odd goals for Everton in 12 seasons!
Re: West Ham all time record goalscorerOn a serious note, I do think it's good that records like Vic's are likely to remain for all time. It shows this club does have a history. Without the past we have nothing.
