In the 1982 World Cup Ossie Ardiles took the number 1 shirt as an outfield player, apparently the Argentine squad numbers were handed out via surname alphabetical order. If We followed this system then Adrian would get the number 1 shirt. Job done 8-)

Razvan Rat wearing 8 in friendlies seemed random, yet he ended up using it.

IIRC, his preferred number was 26. That was taken by Joe Cole and 2+6=8

wilshere 19 is already confirmed via the squad page on the official website.

All other new players don't have a number on there, he has

Seeing as we’re discussing squad numbers in the transfer thread....

Anderson = 8

Anderson will probably stick to 28. 2+8=10
Like with Wilshere; 19. 1+9=10

Diop didn't take 4 as it seems, 24 - well he can't have 6 can he

Ah. Good. Well, disregard my post then :P

Hopefully a proper DM gets 4. I'm childish/old fashioned - whatever fits

Seems odd to me that Fabianski hasn't been confirmed as #1.

Sanchez confirmed as 15. Assume the rest will be announced tonight or tomorrow. Perez is wearing 27 in training today.

Maybe he's a right vicious b*stard and told Adrian he wants his number!

At some point yesterday, Yarmalenko was listed as 20 on the official site, but then it changed back to being blank.

I don't think I was seeing things because the Premier League website has him 20 and someone has edited wiki to 20, so someone else must have seen this. He did of course use this number in friendlies.

That said, Fredericks wore 15 in friendlies and then Sanchez rocks up right on the deadline and takes that number.

I'm not one for scaremongering, but it seems odd that Wilshere and Sanchez got allocated almost straight away, yet others have not. Anderson only confirmed as 8 once Kouyate left, so it worries me there might be a surprise out and that is why the others haven't been confirmed, just in case something else frees up.

Don’t go getting any shirts printed just yet. A few years ago, when we first signed Valencia, Jnr was adamant he wanted Valencia on his shirt. I told him to get one of the established players, but he didn’t listen. Went to the club shop to get Valencia printed, they said he’s no.31, I asked them to make sure which he did...

Enner never wore no.31amd Jnr learnt his lesson.

Neither Diop nor Balbuena wore 4 in pre season. Wonder if we can read anything into the fact that Balbuena got it?

Diop did wear 4 early but oddly wore 24 once Balbuena joined, yet oddly Balbuena wore 25.

He wore 31 in his first season and then changed to 11 when Downing left.
