Oxford fans very impressed with Browne last night. Most of their forum agreeing he’s played his way into the starting line up and will give some defenders nightmares.

Cheers Leon, early sub for Browne because he was tired or because the manager had seen enough and giving him a rest ready for his first league start at the weekend. Good luck the lad, looks like he's bulked up about, fingers crossed.

Toni Martínez Leaves West Ham On Loan

West Ham striker Toni Martinez has joined Spanish Segunda side Rayo Majadahonda on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old featured heavily for West Ham in pre-season, but has been allowed to return to his homeland for the second successive season.

Martinez spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Real Valladolid, helping them win promotion to La Liga.

He could make his Majadahonda debut on Saturday when they open their season away at Real Zaragoza.

i was at the Pompey-Oxford game on Sat and just a few observations.
Looked nothing more than Ok in a poor Oxford side who I suspect will be in the bottom 3 all season which wont help the lad. They are also a very short side, especially at this level of the game, but struggle to play on the floor which again wont help young Browne.
He is tidy in possession and doesn't tend to waste a pass but his dribbling was I reckon only 50% successful. He needs to get himself into the game more too, want to be involved, for long spells of the first half didnt even see the ball and seemed reluctant to come inside to look for it.
Just 90 mins I know but certainly lots to learn at this level even.

What happens if Martinez has a blinder this season.
Isn't his contract up at the end of it?

When we loan out a youngster in the final year of their contract, I assume one of two things:
1: we can have an option to extend
~or~
2: we’ve made our mind up that he won’t make it, and are saving the wager

Yep. Same injury that made him miss the last couple of pre-season matches for us.

Midweek Fixture:

Marcus Browne

Marcus scored his first career league goal and was named Man of the Match, but Oxford Utd lost 3-2 at home to Accrington. He was cautioned for a foul.

MATCH REPORT:
"Oxford regained the lead in the 57th minute with a superb solo goal from Marcus Browne, cutting in from the left to shoot home."

LIVE TWEETS:

4' A good knock into the area by Whyte where Henry and Browne both attack the ball but Accrington manage to get it clear.
6' Browne escapes down the left under pressure from Callum Johnson, but it's the United player who concedes the free kick.
17' Pressure from Accrington that United just about deal with as two dangerous crosses come in before Browne is fouled as he brings the ball out of defence.
20' Browne's delivery to the far post is just too strong for Nelson to get on the end of.
52' United break and play the ball wide to Browne but his shot is deflected into the arms of Ripley.
57' A superb well-worked goal as Browne makes space for himself on the edge of the area and blasts the ball past Ripley into the far corner.
65' YELLOW to Browne. He stopped, thinking the ball had gone out of play. It hadn't and Browne brings down Clarke who had retrieved it.
74' Browne races away down the left and is brought down inches outside the Accrington penalty area.
FT: United's man of the match, chosen by match sponsor @CherryLoad is Marcus Browne.

Weekend Fixtures:

Marcus Browne

Marcus played 67 minutes as Oxford secured their first league win of the season by beating Burton Albion 3-1. He assisted the first goal with a free kick, though there is some debate as to wether the striker actually touched the ball....

MATCH REPORT:
"John Mousinho had opened the scoring for the home side after 18 minutes, appearing to get the faintest of touches to send Marcus Browne's free-kick past Stephen Bywater."

LIVE TWEETS:

2' Marcus Browne charges through the middle but he's impeded and the first free kick goes Oxford's way.
17' Trickery from Browne on the left wing gets him past two defenders before he's brought down midway in the Burton half.
18' Browne takes the kick himself and it's a brilliant delivery: Mousinho claims the flick on that takes it past Bywater, but it was probably going in anyway.
36' Henry rides a challenge and gets the ball wide to Browne. He feeds Ruffels on the overlap who wins a corner.
56' Browne swings in a free-kick from the right touchline that bounces off Brayford's shin but Bywater gets down to keep it out.
59' Browne with a free-kick 8 yards outside the Burton area, smashes it into the wall and it rebounds for a corner.
65' Browne goes down under a challenge and requires the physio.
