Josh Cullen Joins Charlton on Season-Long Loan

Charlton Athletic have signed midfielder Josh Cullen from Premier League side West Ham United on a season-long loan.

Cullen, 22, has made nine appearances for the Hammers since his debut against FC Lusitans in 2015.

He has since had two loan spells with Bradford City and spent part of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers.

"He went to the Championship last term so we thought he was going to be out of our reach," boss Lee Bowyer said.

"We had to just hang in there and bide our time and thankfully he's chosen to come to us.

"I think he's a great addition to the squad. He's a very good player in and out of possession so he'll be a good addition for us. I've always said I only want players that improve us, and he improves us."

Is Haksabanovic injured? Not making squad seems a pointless loan otherwise.

We're about two bad results away from the first muppet to post how it would all be different if Edimilson Fernandes was still around.

Which would still be preferable to those lamenting over us not resigning J. Collins.

Jordan Hugill

MATCH REPORT:
"Hugill played as the targetman with Fletcher buzzing around behind him and just in front of a central trio of Besic, Leadbitter and Tavernier."
"McNair's whipped cross from the right picked out Hugill but his shot cannoned back off a defender’s face."
"A cross from Tavernier was headed against the woodwork by Hugill and when it rebounded to the wing-back to the left of the box he leathered in a low angled effort that sizzled inside the far post."
"It came on 53 minutes as busy Johnson wriggled down the left and whipped in an inviting cross for Hugill to power home a close range header to open his Boro account."
" Jordan Hugill - 7. A sign of what's to come from the striker. Made a nuisance of himself with his strength and power, showing his prowess in the air for both goals. Was unlucky not to score the first, but Johnson hammered home the rebound, then gave the keeper and defender no chance as he rose to hammer home the second. Another step to fitness. A good night's work."

LIVE TWEETS:

16: Boro's best chance for far as Marvin Johnson beats his man out wide and sends in a low cross, only for Jordan Hugill's shot to cannon off a Dale defender and wide
36: Jordan Hugill's ****ed header comes back off the upright, and Marvin Johnson is on hand to drill in a volley on the rebound!
53: Marvin Johnson swings one in and Jordan Hugill is the man to plant home a header! His first for the club and it doubles Boro's lead!
59: Goalscorer Jordan Hugill makes way for Harry Chapman

He was then an unused sub at the weekend as Tony Pulis used no substitutions during the 0-0 draw with Leeds.

Next Match: Sat 15th September vs Norwich (a)

Sam Byram

Sam played 39 minutes as Forest progressed to the EFL Cup 3rd round with a 3-1 win over Premier League Newcastle. He assisted the opening goal and was withdrawn injured before half time.

MATCH REPORT:
"Aitor Karanka's side had taken the lead when on-loan West Ham full-back Byram crossed for Murphy at the near post. Murphy escaped his marker and glanced a header past Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow."

LIVE TWEETS:

2': An early lead! Sam Byram's cross from the right side is ****ed into the net by the head of Daryl Murphy from close range.
6': Byram picks out another dangerous cross from the right side but this time Federico Fernandez is able to head away from Carvalho.
21': Byram is called into defensive action this time to head a dangerous cross towards Kenedy behind for a corner. Forest then deal with the ball into the box to relieve the danger.
34': Byram's run forward wins him a corner on the right.
39': A forced change for Forest as Sam Byram is taken off through injury and replaced by Tendayi Darikwa.

He missed the weekend match as a result of that injury. "The Reds are [stil] waiting to hear the extent of Sam Byram's knee injury"

Next Match: Sat 15th August vs Swansea (a)

Toni Martinez

Toni made his full debut for Rayo, playing 64 minutes in a 0-1 home defeat to Mallorca, and then played 56 minutes of Sunday's historic (late) 1-0 win at Gimnastic - Rayo's first ever win at this level!

Next Match: Sat 15th September vs Napoli (a)

Josh Cullen

Josh got straight into the action, playing a full match for Charlton the day after joining on loan! Charlton won 2-1 at Southend, a match notable for an 18 man injury-time brawl that saw three players dismissed. He assisted the late winning goal with a corner.

MATCH REPORT:
"However, three minutes from time, Bielik headed home Josh Cullen's right-wing corner to secure victory for the Addicks before the late flurry of red cards."

LIVE TWEETS:

19' Debutant Cullen heads at goal from a Page cross and home stopper Oxley saves.
32' At the other end, Grant fires in a low cross but neither Taylor or Cullen can get to it in the middle.
35' Close again. Cullen heads an Ajose cross back into the danger zone but no-one in red can turn it home.

Marcus Browne looking very lively for Oxford right now. Received big praise from the pundits before the game saying he’s way too good for that level. Looks like he’s beefed up and injury free - could possibly make the step up?

browne has started well but calls for him to step up are premature to say the least. needs to get a loan to a better club than oxford. surely a championship side might want him. then if he does well get him involved. not ready yet
samuelson - talented but lightweight. needs a loan in this country if he is to make it with us
Cullen - found his level. 22 and not good enough for us.
byran - shame he got ibjured. hopefully back soon and we can sell him to forest for 5m
hughill - back at his level . sell 6m

the only young players who may get a chance this season are oxford and holland.

West Ham's Josh Cullen reveals major reason behind joining Charlton

Image

Josh Cullen says new permanent boss Lee Bowyer was a significant reason why he joined Charlton Athletic on loan from West Ham United.

The 22-year-old midfielder has started brightly in his spell at the club, contributing two assists in two matches.

And since coming to the Valley he has underlined Bowyer, who himself also played for Charlton and West Ham, as a big influence.

Cullen said: “That was one of the key factors why I came here [Bowyer being manager]. To learn off a manager like that who’s had so much experience in the game and played at such a high level.

“Some of his traits, that’s the type of midfielder I want to be. To come and learn off someone who has that experience was a major factor in why I chose to come to Charlton.

“I wanted to come here and show everyone what I can do and try to make the team better. It’s good to hear nice comments from the gaffer, but it’s no good him saying it and then me turning up and not producing.

“I’m determined to come here and give my all for Charlton and play as well as I can in every game. I want to help the team win as many games as I can.”

Cullen adds to the midfield ranks which saw Ahmed Kashi and Ezri Konsa depart during the summer before Darren Pratley and Krystian Bielik, on loan from Arsenal, joined the club.

It’s spells such as this, outside the Premier League, which he credits with helping him develop.

The midfielder added: “It’s easy now for players to maybe to think ‘well, I’m in and around a first team in the Premier League and I’ll stay there’.

“You come out and it opens your eyes that football is a lot different to what’s going on in the Premier League.

“To come out and get that experience at Bradford, 40-odd games, it’s invaluable for a young player. You find yourself growing up quickly.”

has Hackasack EVER been in the squad let alone get on the field....??

he'd be far better off here getting game time for the under 23's instead of just training...

or is he injured ?? I know you normally say if the player is hurt........
