Always a great thread, glad it’s back.

Looks like our wins from last time are pretty spread out through the season this time, except the final 7 fixtures (no wins) and the five prior to that (four wins). Means pretty all season we will have opportunities to pick up points (and lose them...) on what we did last time.

Reading the OP I didn't realise how woeful we were last year, and I watched every game live or on screen, conceding 3 or 4 goals in 15 games and 2 in 3 others! We done well to "only" have -20 GD. Shouldn't be difficult to improve on this year, at least Swansea wont put 4 past us.

Agree. But we only need 'game' or 'week' not some Americanised concatenation.

It seems crazy to me that we lost 11 games by three or more goals last year !

Madness that some people wanted to stick with Bilic.

It's actually 14.

We lost 6 games under Bilic conceding 3+ goals.
We lost 8 games under Moyes conceding 3+ goals.

If we match last seasons games I counted only 15 points by the hallway stage! That'll definitely be bottom 3

Will it??
Where are Huddersfield and Cardiff going to get 15 from?
(would rather not be looking at other teams results one game into the season)

A welcome return for this great thread. So we are just one goal behind last year. Beat Bouremouth and we turn it all on its head... not such a bad start after all.

An early step into negative territory. A bit of deja vu with last season. A 4-0 opening day defeat in the North West followed by an odd goal defeat to a South Coast side. A comprehensive defeat to a struggling side next followed by a morale boosting win against a promoted side, we shall see....

Re: 2018/19 Benchmark Thread

Postby prophet:marginal on Sun Aug 26, 2018 7:30 pm

I've just looked at this thread in a different way, i.e. I have looked at the scores/outcomes we've had against all clubs in the top tier, who have played at The Olympic Stadium twice (or more, in Bournemouth's case).

We are unbeaten against only 2 such teams, namely Crystal Palace (3-0 / 1-1) and Everton (0-0 / 3-1)

Out of 19 other teams

Huddersfield have visited once, and lost 2-0 (Hull and Sunderland also played there once and lost, but are presently downstairs. We got a draw against Boro).

We improved last season against Chelsea, Southampton and Watford, by winning, when, first time around, they beat us (so, L/W sequence). W/L sequence vs Spurs & Burnley

Our record against all other teams is worse.

Points won at home 2016-7 = 25 (7W4D)
Points won at home 2017-8 = 27 (7W6D)

From one season to the next, we reduced home defeats by a quarter. That downwards pressure needs to be maintained, unless we can start being more dangerous on our travels.
