I agree with Sutts. It is the manner of the defeats this year that have seen a marked difference from previous. Liverpool result aside, no team has torn us apart at will a la Bilic and (to a lesser extent) Moyes.

There seems to be a greater mental toughness this year. Previously, one goal would inevitably be followed by 1-2 more before we decided to have a go at it. I can't count the times where we decided to give the opposition a 2 goal headstart just for turning up.

Plus, we're playing better football overall. No stats to back it up, per se, it just feels better

I'm not totally convinced, but you make some good points

One thing for sure is that we are being entertained more, that is a huge positive we all agree on.

Clacton, not sure if you're seeing the full game on a stream, or seeing either the MotD or Sky highlights packages, but the edits of the latter two can give a lop-sided impression (especially the BBC...). For instance, the BBC showed the Anderson volley, Sky showed Hart's save from Arnie, but not vice-versa.

In my opinion we have been improving since Liverpool. The graph has ups and downs, but the overall trend is definitely up.

Watch both Albie, but ta

Only getting 3 live games in, plus highlights will distort my view, one thing I truly miss after giving my ST up, nothing is quite like being there is it!

What's interesting about the full table is that I've been reading the Palace forum (always look at the oppo before we play them, to see what they are saying etc...) and they are all doom and gloom... yet they are +1 point over last season's results.

Love that Man U are bottom as well

Great thread, really insightful in terms of tracking progress.

You always have to consider last seasons achievements (or lack of) when you look at this seasons benchmark table.

Burnley over achieved last season and are under achieving this season, hence them being at the bottom.

Us on the other hand, arguably under achieved for the past couple of seasons and have only just started to improve on that. Hence us being on the better side of mid table and looking to kick on.

I think the fact that we've only been tonked twice this season compared to the ridiculous times last season tells its own story.

We've certainly conceded far fewer goals according to the benchmark and scored more.
