Just to add my thanks for all your efforts. This is always an interesting read (even when, like now, I am rather fed-up with all things WHU related).

Thanks from me also for this thread

It really is difficult to improve in this division isn't it. Given our last 3 fixtures it's entirely possible we've spent over £60m and accrued possibly, by seasons end, just a point more: who really fancies us against Saints, Watford and Tottenham Hotspur ?

To win the league we'd probably need to chuck £400m or so at it - in a single window - , or have a perfect season where the first XI are always fit, we have a good balance and our opponents have off days.

I'd also say that outside of the top 5 that it's also really hard to be consistent.

No Club in the past 4 seasons has finished consistently in the 6th-10th places.

So, if I am reading this correctly, we are set fair for a minimum of a 4 point improvement on last season, and that would arise even if we lost our last two.

It follows that we could, by replicating our home victory against Soton, and also beating Watford (bear with me...), the improvement could be ten points.

So, a welcome step in the right direction, the size of which will be measured by the next two performances.

Thanks very much for the dedication to this thread.

There is an article on the home page about £20m a point. I reckon it’s half that to compete for the title next year, which comes in at around your 400 million.

Its not even about top 6 any more, there are as less points between us on 46 and Chelsea (currently in 4) with 68 (22) than there are between Chelsea and Man C 92 (24)
Man U in 6th are as far away on points from Man C as they are from Southampton who are 16th.

Man C & Liverpool have made the league look a bit ****, Chelsea/Arsenal/Tottenham/Liverpool could win the two European trophies - The PL still have four teams in the semi finals, that's impressive for any league. Plus there is a relatively poor Man U side in the league.

I guess what I am saying, bar Fulham/Huddersfield and you could argue Cardiff, there isn't much between the rest of us. Only way to stay still is to invest quite heavily or have a bit of luck in the season..

You look at purely stats and Pellers / team have done well, you can argue £100M well is again an argument to make for & against due to squad at time of spend.

Mentioned in the Pellers thread, overall a decent season, I feel he may have under achieved a little. If maybe we got further in the FA cup, not saying final, that may well have masked some of the under achieved a little for me.

Cheers CRFC

Thanks for this thread it’s brilliant !

If we can finish on +10 by beating Watford and then make the same improvement next year we will really be knocking on the door of the top 6

One more push, lads, and its 10th place and +10 on the improvements.

That's fair enough in season #1
