He was born on the 9th of Jan 1997.

I make the squad at 25 including Lanzini.

The only issue is the unlikely to figure Makasi.

Yes, so is 21 years and 7 months... therefore not under 21.

Rice is under 21 so doesn't need to be counted in the 25 (same for the likes of Trott, Oxford, Holland, Neufville, etc), but we can't take Rice out of the 25 and replace him with a non home grown player (such as Martinez).

Makasi could take the place of Rice in the squad as could any of the other development squad players who are over 21 but are English or have been with us (or another English club) since they were 18 or younger.

Sorry Sutts, but I included Diop in the 25 earlier in the window and someone corrected me on it.

What age was he on the 1st Jan 2018?

Excluding Rice because of his age I make it 9 homegrown, so only Makasi misses out if we include our injured trio.

Ah.... you are right mate! I am thinking it is Jan 2019 that is the cut off... but it is indeed 2018 and he was 9 days away from turning 21. So we do not have to count him in the squad this season either.

Good work!

17 non home grown players...
Adrian, Fabinaski, Zabaleta, Masuaku, Ogbonna, Reid, Balbuena, Sanchez, Obiang, Fernandes, Lanzini, Anderson, Perez, Yarmolenko, Snodgrass, Arnautovic, Hernandez,

And 9 home grown...
Fredericks, Byram, Cresswell, Wilshere, Noble, Antonio, Carroll, Cullen, Makasi,

Plus various U21s...
Diop, Rice, Martinez, Silva, Oxford, Holland, Trott, Neufville, Browne, Pask

Corrected... cheers 1post... so just Makasi who is not looking like he will be able to play, unless we don't register Lanzini.

Do we still think Fernandes/Obiang may leave to Europe before the end of the month?

I would personally be disappointed to see Obiang go, I rate him. Plus there are some question marks over Rice and Sanchez ability to cut it at this level as well as question marks around the fitness and legs of Noble and Wilshere.

Fernandes out on loan to get game time and experience makes a lot of sense though, ideally with the option to recall him should we need to.

If Obiang goes it will be a surprise unless he goes on strike. If we wanted to let him go, the time was while the window was open to replace him. We can't do that now until Jan so unless the gaffer tells him "Look we'll see you sorted in January, we've so many new blokes we need you for a couple of more months" it won't make much sense.

Why do we still have Makasi? He's 23 next month!

He was given a one year deal last season. Skipper of the U23s so obviously well thought of. I'd have thought time was running out for the likes of him and Cullen now though. They need to start proving they can step up into the first team, or move on.
