Mark Noble: Evening Standard

Postby simonirons on Fri Aug 10, 2018 8:33 pm

As you may or may not know. - Our Captain has taken up the role of publishing a weekly column in the Evening Standard. - I know its on the front page but thought I would post this in full.

Providing its ok with the Mods. - I will do my best to remember to update....

This Season

When I was on holiday in June, just before I looked at the fixtures on the day they were released, I thought the two teams we didn’t want for the first game were probably Manchester City or Liverpool away. What did we get? A trip to Anfield.

Simon,

It could potentially leave the site open to copyright infringement and other bother by C&Ping the entire article - if you could perhaps just post the first paragraph, like in your now edited opening post, with a link to the article page in future, that would be grand

The comments about pre season are pretty damning for Billic and his backroom staff.

I’m quite surprised tbh, I never had Billic down as someone who cut corners.

Obviously a fair whack of that was aimed at the coaching staff, would it be the managemt that actually organise the teams they play against and locations?

I noticed Nobes and Wilshere at the boxing together the other night, good to see them getting on so well.

Only a short read, but enjoyed it. I’ll definitely look for it every week.

But then, I bloody love the bloke - I’d probably read something he pissed in the snow.

I've been saying for years, before this year, part of our problems going into a new season were we were underprepared. I'm damned if I could see how matches against non league sides in Essex and in Sweden, Germany, Austria etc could possibly prepare us for the season ahead and now our captain agrees with me

A lovely insight from our captain there.

Great read, thanks for posting.

Sadly as it became clearer over time it certainly looked like he was cutting corners. Certainly surprising until we saw the clues, because he always came across as something of a perfectionist. But lackadaisical attitude towards players, lack of fitness overall, arguable tactics at times often questionable transfer and player knowledge if rumours are true and unquestioning support of a clearly underwhelming support staff all raise questions on this front even if all the answers aren't always easy to discern in West Hams set up.

Yes, although what we don't know, and Noble probably doesn't either, is what constraints and issues Bilic had to contend with behind the scenes.

That is an excellent column from Noble, I presume Bilic no longer has one to reply to those implied deficiencies of his.

Would be interested to see the agreement the club has with the ES. - think since Big Sam the club have had a column. - from memory, even Moysie was doing them. - clearly not El Pels cup of tea.

I don’t like it. He could have been positive but didn’t need to compare to last season. Nasty stuff.

Strikes me equally as much as highlighting the club wouldn't spend £££ to get the right hotels, conditions etc.

He doesn't like to blame anyone, but literally slams Bilic, not good Imo and I love Nobes.

I’m sure that played a part, but even so Billic has to be stronger.

It’s a shame really, as his first season will always live long in the memory.
