Relegation thread 2018/19

Postby Puff Daddy on Mon Sep 03, 2018 9:42 am

I think, even after just 4 matches this has to start. Coral's don't fancy our chances, already we are as short as 5/2. Only Cardiff, Huddersfield and Burnley shorter odds than ourselves

Nothing surprises me with this club anymore.

Whatever will be will be.

I just don't care as much these days.

With or without Pellers I don't think we will go down. But it might be mighty close - again !
I never thought we were going to win the title but I must admit I expected a little better than this.

Cardiff and Burnley are certainties for the drop in my opinion so it’s just one other spot we have to worry about. I think we’ll be good enough to keep one of Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield below us come May. Won’t be much better than that though.

I have seen nothing so far to suggest that there are 3 worse teams than us in the league.

Have you seen much of the other teams to suggest they are better than us either though??
Genuine question btw, not picking holes.

I personally think Burnely, Cardiff and Huddersfield all look very poor. I haven't seen anything of note from Newcastle, Brighton, Southampton or Fulham yet either. I even thought we were better than Wolves at the weekend to be honest.

To put it in perspective. Had Arnautovic rolled his one-on-one into the bottom left corner, we would be 16th, one point off of the team in 12th and one win behind the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd in the top half.

Obviously that didn't happen, but I do feel as though we have a lot of room to improve where as I do not see that with many of the others mentioned above.

For me, we will without doubt end the season on more points and in a higher position than last season.
We will get to at least one quarter final again too.

Is that enough for 100m spend... maybe not... but it is progress and it will not be relegation.

As always, there is a load of gash in this league

As per the beginning of the season any one of 12 teams could realistically get relegated and that remains the same, and I include Watford in that

However, i think the bottom 3 will come from Cardiff, Huddersfield, Burnley, Fulham, Palace, Southampton, Newcastle and Us

i think Cardiff, Burnley and Huddersfield are the clear favourites

I agree that those teams also look crap, but I have been to 2 home games so far this season and I have not see anything that inspires the optimism that we will turn it round. In fact I have seen us switch off and give all 3 points away in the closing stages, on both occasions.

Obviously I hope we do turn it around and I appreciate that a season is 38 games not just 4, but I can only see a relegation dogfight at the moment, and we don't have any dogs and what we do have seem to lack any kind of fight.

I admire your optimism. That’s a very big call though. Can’t see it myself.

This is already reminding me of the 02/03 season, surely we learnt then no West Ham squad is too good to go down.

Absolutely valid point. Never assume or presume anything. Especially to do with WHU.

I've just checked and we've been relegated 6 times in the last 45 years, twice in the last 15. All of them at Fortress Upton Park!

I can't get my head around the fact, there are signs of laziness so early into Pellegrini's tenure.

It's not something you'd expect to see this early under any manager, let alone one as respected as Pellers.

It's early days, but you can never rule anything out with this club.

Despite Southampton winning on Saturday they don't have enough strength in depth. When the injuries kick in, they will fall away imo.

Cardiff, Huddersfield and Southampton for the drop with Burnley and Newcastle battling above them.

We will. By the end of the season we'll be gloating and purring like the bunch of smug shits we've always been.

Clueless pundits will be boring on about a season of two halves.

Yarmolenko and Arnautovic will be smashing them in.

Balbuena and Diop will be hailed as the best CB pairing we've had in years.

Pellegrini will still need a haircut.

I think that what's even more sad is that after 4 games we're desperately looking for 3 teams who are worse than us...

I didn't figure we'd be up there battling for a European spot but I didn't think that I would already be looking at the fixtures as to where we could get our first point or thinking, we're better than Huddersfield, Cardiff and Burnley.....

I suppose 100M and a top quality manager doesn't get you much these days.....(well not much better than last year really)...

I think it may take till December for us to start clicking , but hwne we do we will surprise a few people and go on a run, we will win 'six pointers' against the three teams flirting with relegation ie Huddersfield, Newcastle and Cardiff

So keep the faith people
