I can't stand the bloke, but this exchange seems more like a bit of light-hearted banter to me, rather than any kind of serious exchange of views. Probably all stage managed knowing Talk Sport

Precisely. I don’t think many of us are deluded enough to think we have a god given right to recreate the late 60s. We just don’t appreciate Negativity. I respect what BFS achieved for us, but he was never a good fit.

Sam told me during an interview once that Mrs A (Lynn) was a big fan of KUMB...

I know many of you didn't/don't, but I liked him.

As much as I didn’t like some of his football I still think he was what we needed for a time. Our board lucked out with a manager that would stand up to them a little and make a team that could defend when we spent a relative pittance on defensive players over a 3 year period.

His relationship with West Ham fans could have been much better had he chosen his words more carefully.

I think he's one of those blokes who if you like him, that's great and he'll be your mate...

if you don't hang on his every word, then forget it..

that's how he comes across to me..

That's what did for him as far as the fanbase is concerned because we do like our managers to show a bit of respect for the club and its 'style', no matter how nebulous the latter might be.

As far as 'managing up' goes, I think his relationship with the board can be summarized with the words 'Andy Carroll'.

Thought he was what we needed at the time & got treated worse than he deserved. I've seen worse managers treated better.

Also things like when he laughed at Chico Flores endeared him to me.....

Initially I was in shock that we'd employed Sam Allardyce as our Manager but I grew to admire what he did for us , for those who may have forgotten he had us in Top 4 at one time so we couldn't have been that bad with Diafra Sakho scoring for fun .
I liked the man , wouldn't go as far as to say ' loved the man ' but I certainly respected him for turning us around and establishing a West Ham United Away Record , probably stayed a season too long .

Managers like Allardyce have a role. Our dressing room was leaderless and we were disorganised and dispirited on the pitch when he arrived. He addressed and solved those issues quickly.

In his usual style however, once fixed he could not adapt. Aiming simply for Premier League survival is not enough for teams and fans who expect to be in the Premier league (us, Everton and Newcastle for example albeit the demands differ at each club) whereas it is for the likes of Bolton.

As it is for the team to actually be successful and maybe win that cup so many crave it must merge the solidity Sam provided with more attacking flair. You will not win a cup if you cannot both grind out results/clean sheets yet at the same time hurt the opposition.

Our recent upturn under MP has been built not on attacking football but on finding a way the opposition did not look like getting 3/4 a game. Sam was an expert at getting half the game right, the half more likely to see you survive rather than thrive. Once the defensive basics are sound only then can you build the attacking threat presuming you are minded to do so.

He seems like the kind of bloke that's a bit of a b*stard, but if he's your mate, he's your b*stard.

I like to have a pint (of wine) or two with him.

The Chelsea 0-0 which wound Jose up gave me so much joy watching it with my Chelsea supporting mates.

Treat the fans like they don't matter and they won't take to you.

Funny that isn't it you walrus/ballbag faced, long ball merchant.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that.

Mourinho spat; Chico; Dylan T; Allardyce song at Wembley; all good stuff.
