Class act, is our Dec. Good note, in difficult circumstances. If his career and form carries on the way it's gone over the past couple of years, that's a massive signing for England.

Fair play to the lad.

That statement is classy and understated, apparently like everything else he does.

Ah bollox!

Oh well, the best of luck to him and sure won't we all be losing him next.

It'll be a double blow for all us Paddy Hammers.

He'll do so much better than Jack Grealish and a white jersey.

Good for him, but can't help thinking this just hastens his move to one of the big boys.

Oh Declan. I know it was early doors in your career when you did it, but you nailed your colours to the Irish mast in the youth teams, and represented them in friendlies.

As much as I love you as a player, and just know you're going to go far in the game, you should have stuck with your original decision - and lived with it.

There is something about this that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. I will welcome the sight of him wearing the three lions, should he ever get called up, but he shouldn't have switched once he's already represented RoI at senior level - regardless if it was 'only' a friendly or not.

None of this is a dig at him, he's only doing what he's allowed to do - and in my opinion, once you've represented any country at senior level - that's it. You can't do another. This shouldn't be allowed.

Gutted!!! heard rumours only last week that he was committing to Ireland

Good luck to him though and hope he doesn't become another victim to the British gutter press.

It's the home grown rule which has added stupid valuations to players, not necessarily nationality. Hopefully he'll get his chance with England soon. As a West Ham & England fan, this is great news (Just don't get injured.)

Didn't see that one coming. :arry:

Clearly thinks he's got a future at the top of the game, and playing for England gives him a better chance at international honours than playing for Ireland.

Either way, he's just stuck a fair wad on his future transfer value, so Sully will be happy too.

Odds on him getting injured on international duty next call up?

Not surprised in the slightest and expected it to happen a while back. It's tough on the Irish but ultimately for me the right decision on both a footballing and personal matter from what I can tell.

Now to look forward to him displacing the likes of that fat **** Dier and Henderson who's already below Rice's quality in that position.

This boy is truly special and both West Ham and now England are extremely lucky to have him. Come on England/West Ham!

It was weird him playing for Ireland in the first place, with him clearly being English. He's got a London accent ffs.
