Drunk Danish supporter ran onto the pitch and hit the ref during a Denmark-Sweden international about 10 years ago. Recieved a lifetime ban to ALL danish football stadiums + a £90000 fine.

Must have been one hell of a hangover.

The bloke in the Grealish case has put his hands to it, said how remorseful he was and will be sentenced at 2 today.

Magistrates? Or will it go upstairs to crown court? I think something needs to be seen to be done here. I wouldn't normally take that view, banning orders should suffice, but the manner of the attack and having seen Declan Rice post on twitter and the vicious bile that followed from Irish people I think the lad in this case needs to be the poster boy for why it's not a good idea to run on to a pitch and assault players , not forgetting the fact that Rodgers house was burgled and that can only be linked to his leaving Celtic in bad faith.

It's only a matter of time that a player/manager/official is seriously injured by a pitch invader, such is the world we live in. They really ought to come down heavy on this geezer to deter any future attacks.

I'm pretty sure that the bloke who clumped Willie Donachie was Bunter.

Ironically Donachie resigned his job as Newcastle reserve coach 5 years ago for hitting one of his own players.

I'm pretty sure you are right, O similarly named one ;)

Also I seem to vaguely remember chuckling as an old dear whacked Ron "Chopper"

Disagree.
Up to 15,000 of the Bluenoses applauded as the twat was marched away. So shut the ground and see how many of them still applaud him.
The clubs mouth a load of platitudes but some swift hard action needs to be taken here - already one copycat in the afternoon's game at the Emirates.

15,000, where did that figure come from?

I doubt very much that anyone saw that punch and decided it was a good thing to copy, you never know I suppose.

Not in any way condoning this, or indeed making light of it.
But I'm pretty sure this kind of thing has happened more than a few times in the past in Britain. But back in the day it was more or less shrugged off.
And everyone just got on with it. As happened with the Willie Donnachie episode at Upton Park.
And pitch invasions were a regular occurrence in the 70's and 80's. And I have even read of them occurring in the 19th century.

It is not common in any workplace I’ve been at thankfully. I work at a university and if a student tried to punch me they’d at the very least be expelled and the police would also likely get involved.

I have little sympathy for those who commit violence. We might react in the heat of the moment and perhaps that deserves a slightly more lenient punishment, but this bloke decided to do this and had to actually put in effort to try and physically harm someone.

He deserves an assault charge, or perhaps attempted assault given his pathetic attempt.

19000 assaults in the NHS in 2016-17
1050 assaults on London Transport emplyees
477 teachers for the same period

None are acceptable, looks like he got off lightly
