Champions League and Europa QF draws

Postby Monkeybubbles on Fri Mar 15, 2019 12:46 pm

Ajax v Juventus
Liverpool v FC Porto
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City
Barcelona v Manchester United (first game at Old Trafford )

So the four favourites avoid each other. What are the chances?

Think I am right in saying our game at Spurs is subject to change depending on which night Man City play and if they chose them for TV or not?

I hope Man City win 10-2 on aggregate again.

I dont personally believe theres any fix, but that 22.85% draw does seem to happen an awful lot.

The Carabao last year as well wasnt it? The pre-recorded draw.

If I was a UEFA official with an anti-English disposition, that is pretty well the draw I would have dreamed of.

Who could have expected that??

I don't think this draw was fixed. Any of the teams could go on to win the Champions League. Europa league definitely isn't fixed as Arsenal drew Napoli!

The league cup on the other hand....

Juventus, Liverpool, Man City & Barcelona already most peoples picks for the semi-finals.
But if there was to be a surprise (if you can call it that) among those QF games I will go for Ajax.

8 teams left, don't care who wins just as long as it's not Liverpool .

Ajax's youth vs Juve's old men

This is an intriguing one and I wouldn't discount Ajax, but Juve's know how, aided and abetted by you know who, should see them home over two legs

Tottenham vs Man City

Tottenham have not had the best of time against Pep's charges, but they have also not had the worst of records against them either. ~ This may be a lot closer than many realise

Liverpool v Porto

Liverpool beat them 5-0 at The Estadio Dragao last season. It will be much closer this time around, but they are still going to do this lot

Man United v Barca Barca do have Messi and although they are not what they once were, they remain formidable opponents and can do Man U over two legs, but I think Man U provided they don't freeze at Old Trafford, as they did against PSG, will just about edge this, but it will be tight. Should they lose at Old Trafford however, they wont get what is required at The Campe Neu

Depends what you refer to by it happens an awful lot

All four 'big' teams were separated in last season's Carabao Cup [22.85%]

This year in the QF draw for the Carabao Cup were four 'big' teams, and four 'not so big' teams. The four 'big' teams were not all separated as Arsenal played Spurs

I would suggest that the reason it seems to happen more than it should is that it is only noticed when it does, and it seems such an unlikely occurrence [even though it isn't that unlikely at all]

If all four English teams had been separated in this draw people would have said that was extremely unlikely, when in fact it is still 22.85%

Patterns in random data can often look un-random when you are looking out for them!

Really?

So we have one guaranteed team in the semi finals and Liverpool playing arguably the weakest team in the draw. In all likelihood we will have our two strongest teams in the semi finals.

If you really wanted to screw the English then Liverpool would play Man City instead, with Tottenham playing Juve. That way both Man U and Tottenham would likely lose, with only one of our top two teams making the semis with both Juve and Barca lurking.

Why do people desperately scrape the barrel for conspiracy theories. :P

the only importance about the champions league draw is that IF both moan utd and man city get to the semis (at least I think it needs to be both of them) then our game against the spuds will be moved from Saturday to Sunday as presently both manc teams are scheduled to play on TV on Sunday and one of them will be moved back to Saturday instead of us

perhaps someone who understands the details can explain in a manner that someone originally from Dagenham and then Chadwell heath can make sense of - apparently my place of upbringing and birth has determined my IQ - like xxxx it has - but that's a rant for another day
