Man City could face Champions League ban

Postby Cuenca 'ammer on Mon May 13, 2019 10:17 pm

by Uefa over alleged breach of FFP rules

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foo ... 12411.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The investigation, led by the former Belgian prime minister Yves Leterme, is expected to conclude later this week or next week, and is set to advise a ban from the Champions League of at least one season

Uefa’s investigatory chamber has been looking into City’s accounts following leaks which were revealed in the press last year, amid accusations that the club, which is owned by Sheik Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, flouted the governing body’s Financial Fair Play rules (FFP). City have strongly denied any wrongdoing.

To be fair, didn’t Liverpool also break the rules but managed to play it off as stadium costs, or something?

Essentially money buys success. Enough money will buy a way around the rules.

I don't expect any action to be taken..I just think as long as this keeps coming up, sooner or later something will happen..

They’ll be gagging to punish an English club to send a message over money and the four English teams in the two finals this year. Man City are the nouveau rich and aren’t as welcome as Man United and Liverpool etc in terms of worldwide audience so probably the English club they’d most like to clip the wings of.

If they chuck City out then surely PSG must go too?? Their business model looks even more financially suicidal than any club in the world's!!

Mind you PSG aren't from the hated English league so maybe not... :thdn:

It was an attempt at humour. loosely(very) based on the Tevez saga that affected us. i.e. 'They broke the FPP rules so they should be docked points' etc etc.

I suppose the fact that I've had to explain it suggests it was a poor attempt at humour in the first place :oops:

So If they do ban Man C for a year, will another English club get their place? or will it go to a country that UEFA like? I can see them following through on a ban, then Man C challenge etc.

Man C probably have broken the rules somehow, so much money/deals/naming rights etc flying about, but then same could be said for the other "elite" clubs from Spain/PSG etc.

Until the Premier league and the FA actually start enforcing the fit and proper ownership rules then clubs are always going to be at risk.

It's not just in the top flight that the issues are either. More and more overseas investors are playing at things they don't properly understand
