I still claim to be one of the leading "Parker's good you will all see" figures on this forum.

Quashie shouldn't be voted for. One of the few players who looked up for the fight around Jan/Feb last year.
Relieved to read back and find out I didn't pick Parker

This poll was closed at the end of 2007. Parker was injured when we bought him, iirc, and was injured again in his league debut.
He was one of the most expensive players on that list, and barely played for us.

Yes but reading some these posts is still hilarious.

Not because people were saying Parker had been a waste of money up until that time but because of their descriptions of him as a player and of their writing off of him having any future contribution.

It would be interesting to see if some of our current squad go on and prove people so wrong.

If I had been a member in 2007, I would have said that Parker will come good, be HOTY two years running, play for England, and cause us worry everytime the transfer window opened....honest.

To actually be honest, I remember talking to a Chelsea fan when Parker was injured in his first season. I did not write him off, but just thought we had signed a player that would be our own Darren Anderton.

I'll admit it....Parker certainly proved me and those who sit near me wrong. I just couldn't see what he added when he first arrived.....which explains why I watch, others manage. I should have known better...he had after all been a multiple player of the season winner at both Newcastle and Charlton.

In fairness, Parker is a better player now than he's ever been at any club. No-one could have seen that coming.

The funny thing is, no one at the time was responding to those mentioning Parker with anything too angry. Probably in the same way that no one would be defending Barrera or Reid to the Hilt if we had a poll about the most dissapointing signing of the Grant era today. Who knows what we'll be saying about those two in 4 years time. Admittedly we might be saying 'who?', but you never know.

I'm sure was thinking that Parker was a slightly dissapointing signing at the time the poll was taken. Probably because, at the time, he was.

For once, everyone who was wrong and is made to look foolish is happy with it.
