Re: As it's quiet - a player poll (part deux)
And in a decades time when we have lifted the European cup for the second time, I'll ressurect the "How long does Avram have thread" .
Parker was arguably a bad signing after 26 weeks .
After 4 years he looks rather better .
Now, lets think about Avram Grant in the same light.............or at least timescale .

He was constantly injured for his first 6 months, and wasn't fit when he did play. Not that surprising.Jedi Al Khalaas wrote:Amazing that Parker got 14 votres!

First page makes fun reading! Blimey the amount of people who thought Parker was a wimp and a waste of money.

Julian Faubert cost 6.1MILLION POUNDS, plus another 7 or 8million in wages.
That is all.
That is all.

Minus the one and half million Real Madrid paid to loan him. That will never stop being funny to me.Denbighammer wrote:Julian Faubert cost 6.1MILLION POUNDS, plus another 7 or 8million in wages.

Yes. They were bench buddies there for those 6 months as VDV never played either.carnage wrote:Is that Van Der Vaart next to him?

Oh the memories....double quoting, multiple smilies....Ah, those were the days.
Looking at the complete list of signings now with the gift of hindsight it's pretty damming isn't it.
One player turned out worth the money. One out of Fourteen.
A few (Neill, LBM, Upson and, strangely, Solano) it could be argued contributed something positive, but these were mostly pricey buys. Belamys biggest contribution was the transfer fee we somehow got from City.
On balance, most would be classed as failures. Some due to injuries but most were just bad signings. Had my doubts at the time over the Curbs-Eggy bender and seeing this stark list casts it in a very poor light. We're only now shaking off the hangover.

Re:
Ljungberg has turnoed out to be the biggest waste of money out of that lot IMO. Dyer a close 2nd, but have your leg broke in two places is never going to help your injury record.hadleighhammer wrote:Ljungberg - The wages he's on and his legs are gone. At least Parker has still got some good years ahead of him, Ljungberg is just past it from the games I've seen and as some of my more knowledgable Gooner mates said as soon as we signed him.
Think Parker has made the most out of those following years.

With hindsight, this had me in stiches :lol:Countryboy wrote:
Be fair ... Scotty Parker cost more than twice as much, has played even less, and is wasting just as much in wages.
A truly useless, piss-poor signing that only goes to prove that if Curbs was ever allowed to play his personal first-choice team ... it's be sh*t

I don't suppose that Freddie's undiagnosed-for-months (by our wonderful medical team) fractured hip helped his injury record much either...hadleighhammer wrote:Ljungberg has turnoed out to be the biggest waste of money out of that lot IMO. I always said he was a good player - some of you should have bloody listened !
Re: As it's quiet - a player poll (part deux)
Tbh the following were worthwhile
Nobby Solano, Craig Bellamy, Scott Parker, Matthew Upson, Lucas Neill - With Neil, Upson and Parker being vital.
Luis Boa Morte - Never peformed like he did at Fulham

He did have his ribs done too, in the Newcastle game...neilbob wrote:thought that was Spector?

But I recall a direct quote from Freddie about the long-standing fractured hip only being discovered after he signed for Seattle. However it seems he may have overstated it - this is from Wiki:
So... it wasn't fractured - the ****ing drama queen :lol:In December 2008, it was announced that Ljungberg would undergo surgery to repair a persistent hip injury that has plagued him throughout his later career. Surgeons repaired a slightly torn hip labrum and shaved a small amount of bone where the hip meets the femur to prevent future injury.
