Are we sponsored by BetFred?

Postby vmixture on Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:11 am

Scrolling down threads (especially in the GD), it seems whenever the mouse goes over West Ham or Football a bloody annoying pop up ad appears for BetFred. Makes reading through a thread a chore, is this going to be a permanent fixture? Will more words suffer the same fate? I'm sure I saw the word Mexico somewhere also result in a pop up but could be wrong.

Im sure this must have been mentioned elsewhere but I cant find the thread...

Yeah! Put your mouse over Carlton Cole and you'll see a ball go three yards over the bar!

It's the depressing way of the internetz world, VM. Selling words to the highest bidder. UtJ has also flogged the terms "Cuenca Hammer", "Hammerdivone" and "David's Cross" to Stannah Stairlifts. Allegedly.

Can't wait for the "click here for tickets" ads ........go on , I dare thee  Perhaps with a picture of Kazza B crossing her arms .....

They're not too intrusive and no doubt help to keep the cost of the site down for subscribers .Hopefully on Saturday nights they will feature pizza companies as an aide memoire to phone up for one .

When I tried typing on here yesterday the word football kept disappearing. It just happened again! I had to retype it.

Is this some sort of support from UTJ towards BFS and his hoofball? :eh:

For the next three months at least, yes.

If it's not too much bother and you can find ten seconds or so to spare out of your busy schedule you could always click on the occasional link too; every little helps

Thats an interesting form of advertising! Wouldn't be more effective to just put a small Bet Fed logo in each post?

The campaign isn't exclusive to Bet Fred. Over time you'll see other companies involved (Group On, for one).

UTJ. Do the club actually advertise on here? Tickets, merchandise and special offers etc... A bit strange if they don't as there a few thousand fans here!

It you want any feedback on this, then I have to say that they are the most annoying forms of advertising I have ever seen on a website.

It doesn't take too much to 'activate' them.
They don't go away automatically and you have to physically shut them down. Else they will cover over the text you are reading.
They are all over the site, rather than a few choice words. Poxy every time f*otball is mentioned I am getting one of these.

I appreciate that they bring in extra revenue, but a little less intrusive would be a compromise.

Can't they be set so paid-up premium users don't get ads, and the tight-wads that won't part with 15 quid have to suffer them?

What else could the boss flog? He could sell the words "Allardyce", "Tactics" and "Hoof" to the Samaritans. He could sell ""Paolo", "Di Canio" and "Tevez" to the Viagra people. "Trap" could go to Waterstones, WHSmith or anywhere else that sells great fiction (I'm joking, I'm joking)...

You know, et cetera.

Not a problem, I've clicked on a few in the past and in my 6 years as a member I've paid the premium rate for at least 3 years so I hope my £45 has helped maintain the site.

I appreciate you need to raise as much cash as possible, but my point is that the latest venture has an adverse effect on browsing threads. Its an excellent forum, but its quite annoying when trying to read the comments made by others when my browsing is masked by a pop up advertising something I have no interest in whatsoever.

As I am no longer a 'full' member I appreciate having little say in the matter, in fact I understand it was probably a suggestion you made to the paying membership and took guidance from, but I am doing no more than airing my own opinion.

Keep up the good work.

No, sorry DL.

Yes you have and it's much appreciated vm

As I said, we're running a three-month trial. We'll assess once that time is up.
