Impressions so far??

Post by pablo jaye »

Now we are a few games in to the WC - any thoughts on the competition so far?

I have enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. I had marked out a few games that I wanted to watch and have watched far more ..... Including the Mexican and Columbia wins. Plenty of goals and in the games that I have seen, the fact that the attacking has been far more effective than defending (which has been woeful in places) have provided a great spectacle.

Highllights so far .... Dutch masterclass in the second half, Columbia and watching the Roman Mark Noble boss us last night.

Superb world cup, feels like USA 94 all over again, it must be the heat that creates cracking matches with tired players, if that's the case let the world cup go ahead in Qatar, will be goals galore :)

Brilliant so far - more than 3 goals a game, some fantastic football and all my bets are on track :-)

goals goals goals, there hasn't been a single bore fest (though colombia-greece came close imho)
and plenty of chances in each game. long may it continue :)

Excellent stuff so far .

I think most sides have been positive from the off - England actually shocked me with their positivity .

And we've not seen Ronaldo or Messi yet .

Very pleasantly surprised. Spain v Holland was the first match I watched, and what a game it was. Even the England game was very enjoyable despite the loss. May the goals continue

Gonna be very difficult to top the Spain v Netherlands game - that RVP goal and overall performance from Robin were 10/10... Good stuff - only thing that could top it would be Sepp Blater ****ing off

Defending seems to have gone out of the window (which makes for a great world cup). Still waiting to see a well drilled team that look to have to total package. Maybe the Germans or Argies will be the ones to step up and offer that. Maybe even Belgium.

Italy were decent but we still got in behind them a lot. Holland were obviously very good but Spain were still able to pull them about at ease in the first half. Spain were woeful at the back. Brazil's defending was really questionable... I know it is early days and first game nerves are a factor too but so far no team has looked unbeatable to me.

So far it's been the best world cup since back in 1986, maybe even 1982.

- Defending out the window.
- The return of three centre halves
- Chile playing with NO centre halves
- Marauding full backs
- England playing with four forwards

Love it. Image

Really enjoying it, way more than I thought I would! Shitty part is I'm at work during the week so I only catch the highlights of midweek games but this has been a pleasant weekend so far taking them all in.

Enjoyed it immensely until this afternoon. The sight of Adrian Chilles in shorts has automatically deemed this World Cup abysmal

Been fantastic, hasn't it. I'd previously lost my enthusiasm for the world cup after some pretty **** tournaments.

Let's hope it continues in the same style throughout.

Loving it, for largely the same reasons as above, but primarily for the lack of vuvuzelas!

Enjoyed it so far except for the Aussie loss.

Think the ballkids handing other balls over whenever a ball goes out of play to keep the action going helps. They do this in the A-league and I have wondered why they don't do it for the EPL. It saves time trying to retrieve balls and booting the ball into the crowd becomes ineffectual.

I'm gonna be brave & say it's been the best start to a world cup of my football following lifetime

It's been so good that even the matches that have seemed slow burners (like Arg v Bos last night), have actually turned into fascinating & fairly close encounters

Less jabulani & vuvuzelas, more magic spray & goaline technology  Cracking start

Yep, agree totally, been a cracking start, long may it continue

Have not enjoyed watching an England side so much for many years as well, hope they continue with their football and be brave, results will come.

Big chuckles had Saturday night down the pub as well, two minutes in, Sterling scores, beer everywhere, tables went flying only for some soppy sod to say "we havn't scored"....
