Re: So who will you follow now?
Ive developed a real dislike for the hosts.
If they do win it, not only would they be the most average Brazil side in generations but also the most average team to win the damn thing.

As good as this World Cup's been, if Costa Rica go out I could see myself losing interest......

I'm in the Costa Rica fan club too ..... think I might go down there for a bit when the weather gets **** as I can get a flight for less than $300 and everyone says it's a really nice place.

Really! Good stat that.westham, eggyandchips wrote:For the first time........all 8 group winners through to the quarter finals.
As Chile have gone, I am still on the Belgium bus, mainly for financial reasons, but I do like their set up, plus the spine of the team is very strong. I can't help it, but I really like Kompany, not only is he a WC CB, but he always comes across as a decent fella.

I was exactly the same, until I watched the game last night. Can't say I wanted them to win, but I started to understand what the hoohar was all about. A lot to be impressed by.Clacton-ammer wrote:Not getting the USA love in personally, although I have a lot of time for (most) of the septics I have met.

Partly as my bro-in-law is Costa Rican, and is so unbelievably hyper about his country's success, and partly for a whole host of other reasons. Underdog status, impressed by the way they play, impressed by the way they got through the group, and also because of their values and attitudes as a nation.
When England went out, I thought Holland would become my favoured team. So, in theory, I'd be following the winner of their quarter final with Costa Rican. But as so often is the way with Holland, I start off with a lot of love, mostly due to having really enjoyed living in that country, yet before too long there's just so much that is unlikeable about their team/squad that I can't get behind them. I thought this WC was going to be different. They started off playing brilliant football, played as a team, egos not swollen to their usual degree, and you just had to admire what they were doing on the pitch. Yet now the cheating, diving Robben has soured a lot of that in my mind. A perfect illustration, that bloke, of so much that is wrong with the game. Maybe if they keep it clean, and don't try and cheat their way through, I might find myself getting behind them again.... But it's hard to get behind a team that contains a cuntstain like Arjen Robben.....
If the Tico's get knocked out by Dutch cheating, I'll be straight onto the Colombia bandwagon

I really do think the Colombians will do the hosts. I must say, these quarter finals all look like potential classics.

Re: So who will you follow now?
Two of my very best friends are from Colombia and Costa Rica and to be honest, we have had some insane nights together as a big group supporting them. That will continue till they are out. Then I'll have to assess who's left in. Aside from those two there's pretty slim pickings on the likeability scale.

Costa Rica!
Then Hollnad, I suppose, but I feel the same way Stu does. Love the country, love the people but have trouble liking the football team. So many twats. Colombia are the best team remaining to watch, and I used to have a good friend in Paris who was from Bogata, so I wouldn't mind seeing Colombia do well.
Everyrhing considered, though, after yesterday, I'd like to see Belgium win the whole thing and vindicate the US's effort. Still, Costa Rica above all else.

Im sticking with the Dutch. Cant see anything other than a Oranje win......westham,eggyandchips wrote:With England now homeward bound, what team will you be cheering on or maybe having a few quid on to win?
Im going with the Dutch.
Despite the diving of Mr Robben I hope they then beat the Argies then do the Germans in the final.

Germany.

Couldn't really care any less now.
I'd say the Germans are the most likeable
Netherlands vs. Argies.................. Hopefully everyone on the pitch will simultaneously rupture their Achilles & the other semi will determine the winner.

I guess that's exactly what I was trying to convey in the match thread, cheers :lol:Morocco Mole wrote:As good as this World Cup's been, if Costa Rica go out I could see myself losing interest......
But it is silly though isn't it? It's been a fantastic WC so far.
