Surprised nothing's been mentioned of Albania qualifying - I've always thought of them as minnows almost in the mould of Malta and Faroe Islands. This must surely be their first ever finals.

As for Belgium topping the world rankings, underlines how truly laughable the rankings are - they've topped a Euros qualifying group and got to the WC QFs and they're now ranked no.1?

EURO 2016 Groups

Post by a86 »

Now all the group games have finished thought I would attempt to arrange the 4 pots for the draw on 12th December 2015.

here is the current UEFA co-efficient standings which will put the teams in order.

http://www.footballseeding.com/national ... king-2015/

France are automatically placed in Group A and position 1 as they are the hosts.

Playoff draws at on 18th October 2015
Seeded Teams
Bosnia
Ukraine
Hungary
Sweden

Unseeded Teams
Denmark
Rep of Ireland
Norway
Slovenia

Pot 1 (5 teams)
Germany
Spain
England
Portugal
Belgium

Pot 2 (6 teams)
Italy
Russia
Switzerland
Austria
Croatia
1 team from - Bosnia & Herz/Ukraine/Sweden/Czech Rep

Pot 3 (6 Teams)
Bosnia & Herz/Ukraine/Sweden/Czech Rep
Poland
Romania
Slovakia
Hungary/Denmark/Rep of Ireland/Turkey

Pot 4 (6 Teams)
Hungary/Denmark/Rep of Ireland/Turkey
Norway/Slovenia (Maybe Both Maybe Neither of them)
Iceland
Wales
Albania
N. Ireland

so what would be England's hardest group?

I would agree with England, Italy, Poland and Turkey for the hardest

Easiest for me would be England, Bosnia (or Austria), Hungary, Northern Ireland

Given only 8 teams get knocked out in the group stage, my concern there will be a lot of cagey games in the group stage (like previous world cups with 24 teams).

Key will be finishing top to avoid another top nation in the 2nd round

Disagree with Turkey being in Englands hardest group. I'd replace Turkey with either Wales or Rep Ireland... They've both shown this tourny they are a lot better than previous years and also the determination to beat England would cause us more problems than a mediocre Turkey.

So i'm going:

England - Italy - Poland - Rep Ireland/Wales

Any group with Wales or Northern Ireland would be hard for us as they will we very passionate to beat us. And as the expectation is on us to win it is harder for us than them too...

I would of went for

England
Italy
Poland
Wales

Dark horses to cause a shock would be teams like Austria and Switzerland, they've both got very good squads. I don't think Turkey haven't been that great even though they qualified via the best 3rd place position.

No tickets but plan on going to the south of France regardless.

Take our chances on seeing a game from there.

Wales, Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland all in pot four so 50% chance we get one of them. Would be a great game.

Wanted Ireland and Northern Ireland to draw each other, that'd be funny.

Be good if we drew Scotla... oh no.

It will be Rep of Ire and it will be a dull 1-0 or 1-1.

Draw is on the 12 December... so we have a bit of a wait.
