I'd have Henderson and Welbeck in the 11 against better opposition if they can prove their fitness

Hart will no doubt start but I honestly think Butland looks the better keeper

Absolutely.

He scored in 3 out of the 4 England games he has played in this season and 7 out of the 10 last season...

For me, he is still our best striker and if he had Walcott and Stirling either side of him week in week out ot Old Trafford he would be buzzing.

As for Kane, he is looking more and more like the real deal and is very close to a start due to Rooney's lack of club form. If I played Kane, I would be tempted to tweak it though and play two up top.

Big week for Rooney, kept his nerve for a late pen to get his side through in the FA Cup and bagged two last night.

He is still a big player but he is being stifled in this Man Utd team. Hopefully he will unleash a season of frustration at the Euro's

I would like to re-pick my squad

Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Fraser Forster, Jack Butland

Defenders - Kyle Walker, Nathaniel Clyne, Chris Smalling, John Stones, Ryan Shawcross, Callum Chambers, Ryan Bertrand, Aaron Cresswell

Midfielders - Raheem Sterling, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Mark Noble, Michael Carrick, James Milner, Ross Barkley, Delle Alli

Forwards - Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck, Andy Carroll, Troy Deeney

Back-Us- Luke Steele, Gary Cahill, Leighton Baines, Nathan Dyer, Danny Drinkwater, Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney

In terms of form and options, I think that side can have a real go but go out either in the Second Round or Quater Finals.

Interesting to see what happens now:
  • ~ Welbeck's out.

    ~ Rooney's now a midfielder.

    ~ Wilshere is back.

Who out of form or fitness will go due to rep or their employer?
Cahill
Stones
Henderson
Wilshere
Sterling
Walcott
Rooney

Who should go on form?
Francis
Drinkwater
Townsend
Antonio
Deeney
Defoe

Too late now to be integrating debutants.

GK: Hart, Forster, Foster

DF: Rose, Smalling, Jagielka, Walker + Baines, Stones, Clyne

Mid: Dier, Milner, Lallana, Alli + Drinkwater, Carrick/Henderson, Barkley, Sterling, Rooney

Att: Kane, Sturridge + Vardy, Defoe/Carroll

--------Kane----------Sturridge----------
-----------------Rooney--------------------
-----------Alli--------------Milner----------
--------------------Dier----------------------
Rose---Jagielka---Smalling---Walker
-------------------Hart-----------------------

Full backs are decent, but unconvinced about Jagielka. Midfield is imbalanced because the start sheet will integrate Rooney, and Alli's lack of covering/tracking back means he won't start in this formation. I'd start with Vardy in place of Sturridge if Rooney was dropped, just because the formation lends itself to direct play.

Wow... reading back through this thread... so much seems to have changed this season.

Walker now seems to be a nailed on starter, and somehow Rose too... which amazes me but fair play to him, he has come on a lot. Smalling Cahill and Stones are all capable but not solid.

Dier has made the holding role pretty much his own if we play 442 with Wiltshire, Ali and Rooney looking like the three players chasing the other places. I think Henderson can still force himself into that picture though.

If it is two up top... they pick themselves. Kane and Vardy.

In terms of a plan b, we have Sterling who can play on the wing, but I don't think we will have a good balance if we play that formation.

As it stands I would go with...

------------------- Hart ---------------
Walker Smalling Cahill Rose
-------------- Henderson ----------
--------- Rooney Dier Ali -------
------------- Vardy Kane ----------

Sterling could come on for Rooney, Wiltshire for Dier or Henderson (and push Dier back), Sturridge up top, Stones at the back... It is not a terrible squad by any means.

Just feels suspect at the back.
