I'm not against Shawcross being in the squad but he couldn't have stopped the first goal. There was a general lack of organisation but the big single factor was Walker not marking his man properly, if he does his job then he keeps goal side of the Iceland player and he can't score unless he does something brilliant, instead Walker let him run through and score. How difficult is it to to do a basic thing like mark someone rather than ball watch?
You say that, but having a proper leader stops players from making those mistakes. Look at David Luiz at the last World Cup - he defended well all tournament until the Brazil game, where he made numerous simple mistakes, because he didn't have Thiago Silva keeping him alert and awake. It's the reason Cahill is twice the player at Chelsea than at England.

A leader in that back four would have been reminding them of their duties before the throw was even taken.
