Brooking was a class player and a stalwart legend regardless of what division he played in. I love Payet but one season does not make a legend. As for impact maybe take a look at the 1980 cup final - our last piece of silverware.Mayday wrote:
This is true and Brooking was one of my favourite ever players but I think i would be right in saying he never quite had such an impact as Payet just has. Not that I remember anyway.
Re: France Vs Romania Match Thread
Deschamps was asked why he took off Pogba and said he made a choice because he knew he wanted to keep Payet in the heart of the game. A great endorsement.
Re: France Vs Romania Match Thread
If agree PP, France were definitely struggling thought its amazing that, once again, the player that got them back in it and was then responsible for putting them in front was Payet. We all know how class he is but tonight he did it on a world stage. (Yes it might be the Euro's but everyone in the world is watching).the pink palermo wrote:I thought France were a little disappointing , and better sides than Romania will have noted their weakness at the back, and are likely to be better capable of exploiting it .
Kante and Payet were the two stand outs , with the latter delivering a great cross for the first goal and banging in a you don't save those for the second .
He's the poster boy for this tournament now .Might even make the front pages tomorrow .
I don't want to sell him but if on this stage he out performs Bale, Muller and Pogba (tonight Pogba for sure) then think of the players that might want to join us to play next to him.
Exciting potential for us indeed.

We better stop singing that f#%£in song cos if they didn't understand, they do now!!
Seriously, I don't think he will leave. He's in the form of his life playing for a club that loves him and will be paying him what he's worth. The Hammers are on the up and moving to the Olympic stadium. Why change that and for what ?
Now, in my best Michael Cain voice....stop singing that bloody song!

I can't find one Pinky, but both me and Mrs Bristol laughed out loud at the reaction from the other two.
Mrs Bristol commented that it was "5 mins to 9 so almost watershed".
He was just so passionate, a real breath of fresh air.

He's super Slaven's man,
He won't play for Zidane,

No one said anything about legend or a domestic cup game.
We are talking about being an absolute boss on the world stage and being the only thing talked about in the modern football era and in the age of the Internet.
West Ham has not had a player to do that.

Payet looked superb yesterday , I'm just hoping we can sign a couple of players who are on the same wavelength as our French Maestro then we'll have something to shout about next season - it was heartwarming to see what that meant to Dimitri as he came off , he's been overlooked for far too long , he's another of a long line of players that West Ham United have put on the map when their careers looked to be on the wane .
Next season will be even better than the last .

The lure of the few really big clubs is massive. I think the odds of us keeping him are reasonably good though will get worse the better he plays in this tournament. Although it's hard to say it may well be better for us if he isn't so good for the rest of the tournament.Canadianhammer wrote:We better stop singing that f#%£in song cos if they didn't understand, they do now!!

I definitely think we have a better chance of keeping him than Leicester do with Kante who is almost certainly gone despite their CL football next season.
