Great pass from Pogba even though he fell over....again.
Harsh on Albania.
If France stay in Dimi for Golden boot?

Re: Dimitri Payet v Albania
He has and can play through the middle and his movement would have been of more use than Giroud against a team that plays like Albania hence why Gignac was brought on. My comment was more about anti Grioud than pro Martial anyway.fjthegrey wrote: Martial has played wide all season for Man U, it's his position.

I doubt they'll leave Pogba out again. They need him to be the second playmaker with Payet.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Gignac start the next match, Giroud has missed how many chances?

Re: Dimitri Payet v Albania
I think it tells you everything you need to know about the idea of a target man.
If your crosses are good, the size of the man on the end of them is irrelevant. Griezmann is probably France's smallest player, but his movement gets him the space and he's good enough to tuck away the chance with his head.

Shocking isn't it. I don't think they can win it without a prolific striker.kalashnikov wrote:

Girould and Martial are not good enough.
And to think of the pool of strikers they had to choose from.

If I knew anything about football, which I don't, I would say that was a stunning goal but that is probably a load of drivel.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Dimi again last night - almost enjoy watching France more than England for him alone!!

If France have genuine aspirations to win the competition they will need to raise their game somewhat .
I can only imagine the reaction among England supporters if it had taken so long to polish off mighty Albania .

Re: Dimitri Payet v Albania
They were so slow, you'd have to assume this was their instruction. The build up was glacial, and they seemed genuinely terrified of the very physical pressure from Albania. I thought Martial would do better, having a year to develop in a physical league, but he was atrocious. Coman looked much better, especially second half.the pink palermo wrote:If France have genuine aspirations to win the competition they will need to raise their game somewhat .

And Giroud, dear Lord, it's easy to see why he get's so much stick. He scores eventually, sure, but how many chances does it take? Threading balls through to Lacazette would have to be a better option, wouldn't it?

Re: Dimitri Payet v Albania
When he picked up that ball from Gignac in the 96th minute after he too slipped and fell over, I knew, the crowd knew and the entire Albanian team and management knew, it was going to end up in back of their net
Re: Dimitri Payet v Albania
I feel in some way France are stuck in a conundrum in terms of the midfield. Matuidi and Kante are fantastic off the ball, but not brilliant on it. Them + Pogba could be mustard against us, Spain, Germany etc - teams which try to play - they could dominate. Against weaker teams, or just ones you need to play through, like Romania, Albania and possibly Italy, I feel like that three doesn't have enough finesse/passing ability, with one of the more flair players/a passer needing to come in to help break the defence down.

I listened to the second half on the radio.. all I heard was Payet, Payet Payet. He sounded at the heart of every movePuff Daddy wrote:Well, 'Claretdave' was right. It was Dimitri Payet v Albania
