England vs Wales

Post by The Old Man of Storr »

Thought I'd take the chance to open up a thread on one of Wales' most important football games for a long time .
England will be favourites , they are full of talented Premiership quality players while the Welsh make do with a mixture of La Liga , Premiership , Championship and Scottish Premiership - History will favour the English but this game is a bit special to the Welsh maybe even more so than to the English who have qualified time and time again for various tournaments .
I am a close friend to Owain Fon Williams' mother , we grew up together and played together as kids , living just 2 doors away - I hope he gets his chance ahttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36534480nd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; hasn't gone there to make up the numbers . Who will win ?

I'm never confident when the Welsh play England and this time is no different , the players know each other well and while England have the better players all round the very best player on the park will be Welsh .
Gareth Bale didn't have his best game against Slovakia , neither did Ramsey so I'm hoping they're keeping back their best form for England - my head says a 2-0 victory for England while my heart is crying out for Wales to beat their more talented neighbours by a single goal .
I suppose a draw isn't good enough for England but I'd settle for one just now - let's hope it's a great game anyhow .

Wales win.

Coupled with Slovakia beating Russia this will leave us needing a win in our final game to stand any chance of being one of the best third placed teams.

England tend to start their tournament proper in game two of the tournament. They've won six of their last nine game two's including famous wins over Argentina, Germany and Scotland.

I think we'll be sharper than Saturday and grabs 2-0 win to take us top of the group.

I have no idea why, but this is the most confident i've ever been before an England game at a tournament.

3-0 or 3-1

I'd pick the same team, but Sterling would be told if he fails to produce any end product by 60 mins that's his lot. No Kane taking corners.

If we pass like we did against Russia we'll be fine. However we need at least 2 goals because Wales will score.

Given how Sterling played vs Russia Id drop him for anyone, Welbeck I guess. The rest of the team was decent.

I too am strangely confident. Im hoping for sun whilst I skive off work in the pub beer in hand.

At the risk of sounding like Michael Owen, if we take our chances we'll win the game easily. Another day we'd have beat Russia 3-0 but we just couldn't put it away. There's nothing wrong with what we create but they now need to start putting it in the net

Wales 6/1 with William Hill - money to be made there I reckon. This will be like a 3rd round FA Cup tie ... with Wales taking the part of the underdog who springs a surprise beating a team who think they only have to turn up to win.

There is no way England will think they only have to turn up to win.

Got that feeling Wales are going to do it.

Will Carling once said England have to learn to hate the Home Nations with the same passion that they hate England. Wales know that if they win tonight they'll have all but shut the lid on the England coffin and that will be their incentive.

We don't have enough passion to deal with these big games, compare it to the spirit of the Euro '96 and WC '98 team......not even close!

England's only hope is to arrange for the kidnapping of Hodgson, and the emergency appointment of Super Slav until the end of tournament.
